It's no secret that 24 might not get a ninth season. FOX has been looking at cancelling the series, and quite possibly might do so in the next few days, according to Variety. Critics haven't been very enthusiastic about this season, and the cost of production has continued to move upward in contrast with the dropping viewership.
A film for the series is being considered, but is it the end for the old 24-hour format, where it actually took place in real time over the course of one day? Maybe not.
A crew member for the series has some optimism that another network might revive the series for a run. NBC's head Angela Bromstad, according to the crew member, is a "major league" 24 fan, and is "extremely motivated to find a way to get 24 on NBC.
This is somewhat ironic, considering 24's tone is just as gritty as Southland, a show which NBC dropped (and was later picked up by TNT). How long would 24 last before it was traded once again to another network?
However, NBC IS interested, and this is good news for Bauer fans, obviously. Of course, the question is: can it happen?
If the movie is going ahead as planned, it will be very, very hard to make the shooting schedule compatible with that of the series, given that it takes most of the year to produce one season of the action drama. The film, in which Jack Bauer fights terrorists in Europe, might not happen, if the series is picked up, or vice versa.
What do you think? Would you rather see a Jack Bauer movie, or do you think he should stick to fighting terrorism on television - namely NBC? Leave your comments in the section below. It should definitely be interesting to see how these negotiations over the future of TV's once-legendary series will end up.
I'd like to see a season 9, then any movies. I feel they could use another season. Also, NBC would get a lift from an established successful series. The Fox studio head Kevin Reilly is not enthusiastic about the show is one issue from what I have read, it is not so much that 24 is not successful anymore. He seems to want to bring in his own shows, and also there was a story he wants to offer the House producers another hour on Monday, to make two hours of House-like programming. So it depends on the tastes of these network heads as much as ratings or cost; if the NBC head wants 24 then I hope they go for it. Reilly is seemingly not a fan of the show; if some of the NBC heads are then the show would get more promotion and support, even if for a season — and NBC would get a successful show to help their schedule recover. The other shows on Fox are lower-rated, I don't see Human Target or Fringe drawing 24's ratings; they haven't so far and I don't see it happening. That is their choice, if they want to promote these lower rated shows which Reilly was part of producing [again, that I see as the issue more than 24's ratings or cost] I also would not compare 24's situation to Southland, that series was on for one season.
Movie Next! Then Relaunch 24 on NBC- Fall 2011. New Time Slot. Change the Name from 24 to "Jack Bauer" Movie Summer 2011 / Series Fall 2011 and Bam! you get the silent clock.
i would like to see it stick around still…i love it and keifer sutherland as jack bauer. have watched it from day one., never never have is missed any esposides. have all the dvd on it.
Honestly, 24 changes so much every year that as long as the writers could craft a good storyline I dont see the show couldn't last another 1 or 2 seasons. There is so little cast overlap each season I would keep watching, if it's good.
24 for a 9th season on TV and then after that the movie.
24 deserves a final kick off season on TV! Renew 24

As much as I love 24, I say start up the movies. Don't move it to NBC or anywhere else. This season has been okay. It's heating up now, but after the 4 hour premiere event it was a little slow, and predictable.
As long as they give Chloe a more active role Im all for it continuing no matter where it ends up.
after last nights episode 24 showed after 7 seasons they can still shock you!! I love this season and it seems to just be getting started. I do not care who has it they should do a seaon 9 then do a few movies. Jack bauer is the jason bourne of today!!
I think 24 should last for 10 Seasons and then go for a movie, bring Almeida BACK!!!!!!!
24 is my favorite show! There is nothing like it. I would much rather have a weekly show than a movie. It would be a great move for NBC to pick it up!!
I want 24 to continue on TV. I am hopingthat NBC will pick it up. It is the best show on TV.
24 needs to continue on the television , NBC hear my prayer pls take 24 season 9 like Donna said it is the best show around can't wait to see it forget about the movie the serie will come up with mutch more viewers than a movie
