"Geek" used to be a bad word.? As the digital age dawned,?the only thing geeks on television were good for were hacking into the school computer system to change a grade.? However the technological revolution also brought an accompanying shift in social dynamics and geek power was born.? It's not money, it's not guns, it's not politics.? Information is power and those who have it win.? If you want to win these days, you need a geek on your team.

And shows today have got some of the best we've ever scene.

Geek vs Nerd

These two are not synonymous.? While both have highly developed skills, usually related to computers, it is generally agreed that geeks have the social skills to match their intelligence, while nerds do not.? Colleagues may not understand how they do that voodoo that they do so well but geek teammates are referred to as friends and coworkers will protect a geek that they consider "theirs".? This protection often includes guns as geeks tend to work behind the scenes and are only drawn into the field under extreme circumstances.

***

Penelope Garcia, Criminal Minds.? The Oracle of Quantico is the BAU's most useful weapon in their quests to catch serial killers.? With the country's databanks at her fingertips, Garcia always has?the information they need and still has?time to flirt. Tech support should always come with a side of sass.

(PS: this is me, Pixie. Don't know how to do the name change thing yet, but soo happy to be able to comment on your articles!)

I used to love Charlie on Numbers, but the past year or so he seems to have gone from geeky young and hip professor to a much more serious character. I want the fun Charlie back!

I adore Garcia, and the episodes 2 season ago where she was shot and the aftermath were painful to watch, heartbreaking really- but probably my fave episodes so far. I was hoping "Xander" might become more of a regular character, so Garcia could have someone to play with.

Pixie, you should be able to type your name in the From: field and type over "Guest".

Charlie only became serious because people keep shooting at him. He has lost a lot of his quirkyness in the last couple of years. Hopefully his engagement to Amita will help him revert to his old ways.

Yes,Garcia rocks. No question. :) Check out some of these phone conversations:

Derek Morgan/: I thought I was calling the office of Supreme Genius.
Penelope Garcia: Well, gorgeous, you've been re-routed to the office of Too Frickin' Bad.

Penelope Garcia: Office of Unfettered Omniscience – how may I help you, O fortunate one?

Penelope Garcia: Oracle of Quantico – speak if you deign to hear truth!

Penelope Garcia: Fount of all Knowledge, check my flow!

Penelope Garcia: Rainmaker, how wet do you want it?

Consumption was actually the name given to Tuberculosis, so called because people seemed to beconsumed from within by the disease.

I wish it was easier to read this but when I increase the text size it disappears off the right side of the screen and with no scroll bar at all.

I adore Garcia and of course House is the king of – well – everything, including geekdom. However, what about Abby in NCIS? IMO she was the original that Garcia was modelled on and Abby totally rocks.
Then of course there's McGee (also NCIS, also genius geek) Topher (Dollhouse) don't forget Garcia's colleague Dr Spencer Grey (genius/geek/agent/HOT!), Masuka (Dexter) and then there was Zach from Bones (sniff) presently languishing in the funny farm) and alllllll the other squints (including their queen – Dr Temperence Brennan.)
Give Xander a regular role with Garcia too, please, he is adorable as a computer genius just as he was as a Scooby.

Definitely another geek fan. Good choices! I didn't put Dr. Spenser Reed on because I already had one from Criminal Minds. I seriously considered Abby but I like Chloe a little more (and I was trying not to use the more CSI-like characters). Hope you liked it.
