Fox2006EmmyParty_0032_72_1156775383After directing an astonishing 59 episodes as well as the two-hour 24: Redemption, Jon Cassar is stopping his own clock on 24.  The directed announced on his twitter today that he is leaving the show after seven seasons to pursue a career in feature films.

"I won't direct any episodes in Season 8. I've left the show to chase a feature film career. They've already shot eps 1&2."  Cassar announced to followers, episodes 1 and 2 referring to the first episodes for 24's 8th season.  Cassar was heralded by many as the nexxus of 24's creative energy, but the show will no doubt go on. The 8th season of 24 will feature a reconstituted CTU functioning in New York city.

Cassar has been working on his firs post-24 feature, The Technician, which was announced earlier this year.  Not surprisingly, Cassar is staying in his power-zone with The Technician, a crime thriller/action piece.  A brief description of the film on IMDB says "When a crazed gunman takes ten people hostage in the emergency room of a downtown San Francisco hospital, the SFPD are short on options. Kate Doherty, a beautiful young hostage negotiator, is doing the best that she can, but the gunman is a lunatic, and three people are already dead. Chief Maddox is ready to send in a S.W.A.T. team, but he knows that will mean that two-thirds of the hostages won't make it out alive."

Sounds like a job for… er… Jack Bauer?
