While in Hong Kong this week to promote the release of the animated movie, "Monsters vs. Aliens," (he voices the character General W.R. Monger) Kiefer Sutherland confirmed that he will return for the 8th season of 24.
"There are plays I want to do. There are so many different things I would like to do, but I was so fortunate to be part of something like '24' that my focus is still on that right now," he said during an interview.
Sutherland also compared '24' to a girlfriend saying, "If I was going to liken '24' to a girlfriend, '24' has been really good to me. And I need to be really good back."
Despite his enthusiasm and loyalty to the show that revived his career, Sutherland put the real pressure on the writers of the show, saying that '24's future hinges on their ability to shape the story and the characters.
"The real pressure is placed on the writers. It's a real question about how much they feel they can give and what they can do," he said.
Although the ratings for '24' have continued to slip over the years, the show continues to remain in Fox's top 5, and has regularly pulled in 11 million viewers for season 7. Season 7 has 9 episodes remaining, and will conclude with a 2-hour season finale on May 18.
