ABC Officially Cancels All My Children & One Life to Live

This shouldn't come as a surprise, but as a fan of the canceled Passions (yes, I admit it), I'm always sad when soaps are canceled.  I used to watch All My Children back in the day when Sarah Michelle Gellar played Susan Luci's daughter.

We know about the ending of One Life to Live and there's been talk of the cancellation of All My Children, but now ABC has officially set the end day for both long-running soaps.

All My Children will air its last episode in September 2011, while One Life to Live will end in January 2012.

Replacing these shows will be daytime talk shows The Chew and The Revolution (working title).  The Chew will focus on food in relation to "joy, health, family ritual, friendship, breaking news, dating, fitness, weight loss, travel adventures and life’s moments".

The Revolution, meanwhile, will focus on health and lifestyle transformations.  The Revolution will be hosted by a panel of recognizable names, including Tim Gunn, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak and American Idol alum Kimberley Locke.

ABC has chosen to make this decision in light of the dwindling ratings for soap operas, while information shows, such as The View, continue to rate higher during the day.

Fans of General Hospital should rest easy.  It is currently the second highest rated soap opera during daytime and will not be impacted by ABC's decision to cancel All My Children and One Life to Live.  But it appears that AMC and OLTL fans will get closure.  According to ABC:  "To honor the core, passionate audience and their rich history with our soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live will conclude each series in a manner that respects their legacies and the longstanding hopes of many of their viewers."

I agree with NO more Talk Shows. DO NOT CANCEL "One Life to Live". I will NOT be watching ABC in the future in the daytime viewing time. Nothing in their viewing format appeals to me.

I wish them luck converting viewers of these 2 soaps to the ridiculous sounding "replacements"- I won't be one of them

OMG – how could OLTL be cancelled?  It's the best soap on TV right now.  And for another talk

show?  People are getting tired of those.  When are the TV stations going to wise up.

PLEASE Do Not cancel One Life to Live ro All My Children!!!  Who the heck needs yet another talk show? I think this a big mistake on ABC's part.  Do you have any idea how many people follow the soaps by taping or DVR'ing them.  What is wrong with ABC.  I have watched these shows almost from the beginning and I can't imagine a day without them.  This is so not fair!  Majority of TV in my house revolves around abc but I can tell you this I and most of my friends will boycott all of ABC programming, easily done considering how many other channels there are.  It is a shame that that this company has absolutely no consideration for the many of us who are at home everyday and are fans of the show.  If they look at ratings what exactly are people at home watching?  Children's shows? Give me a break wake up and smell the coffee people are forced to go back to work due to the economy so watching soaps at night and on weekends to catch up is what many do… what else can we take away from working women?! BAD MOVE ABC!

I can't say I didn't see the writing on the wall, but ABC would have been better off launching new soaps rather than talk shows.  OLTL and AMC are kind of hard to jump into as a new viewer, and the writing on OLTL especially has been sub-par for quite a while now, so long time viewers have been jumping ship and there haven't been many new viewers; hence the low ratings.  But if they marketed them right and modernized them a bit (think Desperate Housewives), new soaps would probably recapture long time AMC and OLTL viewers and gain new soap fans.  I think ABC's thinking is that with Oprah leaving, they need something informative and talk-show-like to pick up her fans, which is cool, but just air that in the 4 PM timeslot and leave the soaps alone.  ABC is totally revamping their daytime lineup; it's a really risky move, and I'm curious to see how it plays out.  I for one won't be watching any new talk shows, but I might keep watching GH if they do the smart thing and snag some fan faves from AMC and OLTL to be on their show and cut down on the mob hour (it's called General HOSPITAL, not SOPRANOS).

What will I do without my daily dose of Pine Valley? I have watched AMC daily for the past 25 years! When I was a housewife and stay at home Mom I watched it live and looked forward to sitting down for that bit of "me" time. In the past 5 years since I've joinerd the work force I relied on my VCR and PVR so I could still have that bit of "me" time at the end of the day….. I never missed an episode! Shame on ABC for cancelling these long running soaps that have tuned in viewers for generations!!! The last thing daytime TV need is another fad talk show:(

WOW! Where was I in April? This sickens me! I will NOT watch talk shows all day! Ellen is the only decent one left and The Chew looks like a big ewwwww! Rosi is coming back? Another ewwwww! The View? Joy Behr makes me sick with her Blue Donkey agenda! This is oh so sad!!

Well, it will be a dark day in mudville when ABC strikes out with their cancellation of AMC and OLTL. AMC's last show did not end well as stated in the above article. How can a shooting with "La Lucci" the potential victim be anything but a travesty. I hope OLTL will be more considerate to it's loyal viewers. I'm disgusted with TV and with it's so called "Reality" shows which are as contrived as it's insipid characters.
