ABC Picks Up Nashville, Red Widow, Zero Hour, Family Tools, and The Neighbors

abcABC has picked up its first new shows for next season and it’s a pretty assorted bunch, to say the least.

On the drama side of things, the Alphabet has given the go to musically inclined Nashville, crime/revenge caper Red Widow, and action-heavy Zero Hour. Nashville stars Connie Britton as an aging country music diva forced to tour with an up-and-coming artist (Hayden Panettiere), but the young chanteuse has other ideas than simply learning career tips and singing pretty songs. Red Widow follows a woman’s trip down the rabbit hole of organized crime, as the recent murder of her husband sends her deeper and deeper into the darkness that she didn’t know existed. Zero Hour takes a paranormal junkie and has him use his belief in conspiracies and codes to solve the abduction of his wife.

On the comedy side of things, though, there has been two pickups, as Family Tools and The Neighbors are both going to series. Family Tools, a retitled remake of British comedy Red Van Man, stars Kyle Bornheimer as a perpetual screw-up forced to take on his family’s handyman business when his father has a heart attack. The Neighbors, from Dan Fogelman, takes us to the suburbs where we meet your average, every day, typical American family, freshly transplanted from the city and ready to meet their neighbors. The only problem? The neighbors are aliens.

These, of course, aren’t all of ABC’s pick ups for the season, but they’re a pretty good starting point. The 2012-13 ABC primetime schedule is set to be revealed next Tuesday, where you’ll find out the landing points of your favorite shows and the most promising pilots.
