The prevailing theory surrounding Adam Lambert's surprising loss to Kris Allen on American Allen is that the over-dog was a bit too gay for America. Sure, and the reason why Star Wars lost best picture to Annie Hall is because Hollywood is controlled by Jews. It really does Adam a huge disservice for his fans to spin these conspiracy theories - there are some very good reasons why Adam Lambert lost on American Idol, and some of them are very flattering for the big guy.
#1 - He is an acquired taste. Adam is an artist, and he tries to put a personal stamp on everything he does - and, most impressively, he didn't compromise his artistic vision for American Idol. The problem is that in doing so Lambert appealed to viewers with a higher 'artistic' tolerance. Remember, American Idol is targeted at the pop-music crowd - closer to center wins the day.
#2 - He's too good looking. People hate Adam for his looks. It's just the human envy reflex. Idol is about one of us (regular guys) becoming one of them (superstars), and Adam came on looking like a super star guest instead of a contestant. It confused people.
#3 - Daughtry syndrome. As a rocker, Adam limited his potential votes by alienating old fogies who couldn't stomach his catterwalling. The good news is that the music world is a bit more segmented than the TV market, so Adam won't have any trouble at all fitting in there. Best of all, like Daughtry proved, you don't have to win to be a hit-maker.
#4 - Simon Cowell liked him. The kiss of death. Do we really need to explain why?
#5 - He's too good. Adam was just too damn good, and that was way too confusing for the viewers. Why vote for a guy who had already established himself as a super star? Lambert probably achieved more fame with his crazy getups and theatrical sets than any other American Idol contestant in history - and that's not what the show is about. Again, at the heart of the show it is all about one of us becoming one of them; Adam walked, talked, and performed like a star. As evidenced by the entertainment medias obsession with him, he got the part in our consiousness - problem is, at the end of the day people want to see the boy or girl next door make good. Advancing Lambert would have been redundant.
Psychobabble, you say? Maybe. But either way, Lambert lost American Idol and there are a lot of reasons why we should have seen it coming.

Adam lost because the final three was composed of two singers who had very similar styles and fanbases — Danny & Kris — and the uniquely unique Adam. When Danny went home, voters who had preferred his style naturally gravitated to Kris. If the final three had been Adam, Allison, and (choose Kris or Danny, doesn't matter), the final vote would have been very different. Yes, obviously, Allison's ouster meant her voters had to decide on a new contestant to vote for, but I suspect they were more splintered than Danny's supporters. I also suspect they liked Kris better than Danny, and that's why Kris ended up in the Top Two.

Actually it doesn't really matter that he lost Idol as he will be a huge superstar anyway and I have come to the conclusion that second place may actually be better for him and free him up to accomplish more. Although I was really disappointed I wish Kris the best because he is a really great guy and a really good friend of Adam's.

I loved this tongue-in-cheek article. Great! :) The only exception I have is the "old fogies" — actually, that might be me – I am 50 years old, but Adam appeals to all of us old rockers. (And to look at me I am the most conservative Mom and I ADORED Adam, as did a bunch of people I know, 16 to 80 (yeah no kidding)! American Idol is not the ultimate arbiter of American taste in music (thank God). You'll see who the true star is very soon, and it is not usually the one who wins AI. (And I even like Kris – what a great guy). But Adam is phenomenal.

Truthfully, I think that the real losers in this situation are the talent scouts in Los Angeles. I mean, in what world does somebody as awesome as Adam have to go through the channels of reality TV for recognition?

I happen to have loved BOTH of them. I loved Kris from the moment he sang To Make You Feel My Love. His style matched mine. I was fascinated by Adam from the auditions on. They are both absolutely fabulous! Neither is a loser. Kris' style just appealed to more people. Those people are not wrong and neither are Adam's fans. There is room in the music industry for all types of musicians. Its a shame that there had to be a "winner" but that is the nature of the show and Adam fans are not doing him any favors by claiming that the show was rigged or whatever. Kris won. Adam won. They love each other. Why can't their fans just follow their example?

He entertained you just as well as Adam, but in a different way. I also liked that he was a musician. He can play guitar and piano. He didn't really put out a "hey, look at me" presents, but, he played and say from his heart. His easy going, soft spoken personality was appealing.
Adam has a voice, stage presents & showmanship. He was entertaining to watch. I could see him doing Broadway! NOT pop music. No one can deny he was/is theatrical. But after a while his performances all had the same twist on them. I "predicted" they would have him perform with KISS or the remainder of Queen….because that is exactly who he reminded me of. (They are all "old Fogies" now too). Those "bands" were huge in their/my day. But, they "came into" fame as bands, not individual performers. Part of that fame was the "shock factor". I am not sure any of them could have found independent stardom under the same theatrical identities that propelled them to the top as groups. Maybe Adam's showmanship was a bit too much for mainstream America to accept as a pop performer. Here is something to think about…
There once was a talent show called Star Search. There was a kid from the mid-west named Sam Harris who blew you away when he sang. He was flamboyant and could belt it out, just like Adam does. He won the contest the year he was on. You'd hear little tidbits about his artistic development for a short while. But he in no way became a household name. BUT, go read his Bio folks…that guy has been busy doing albums, Broadway, TV, he's sang at Carnegie Hall!! And that's just a to name a few things. The point is, he has been doing what he loves and has made a fine living at it. So what if we don't ALL know who he is. He has still been living his dream, creating & performing. Adam will do the same!!
Two young men competed, both worthy opponents. Adam's fans shouldn't be crying foul play. It truly is in bad taste. Both of these young men will have great opportunities ahead of them. They will both get recording contacts and be promoted. Most importantly, they will get to perform! That is why they were on the show in the first place. "Success" doesn't necessarily mean everyone knows your name. I bet hear about Kris in either the Christian Music industry, Pop or Country music. And Adam….Broadway. They will both be winners!
