The Chris Golightly controversy seems to be simmering to halt, but it might not be the last we see of the frizzy-headed crooner, who was dismissed from American Idol's top 24 on the technicality that he was still under a recording contract. Golightly has not gone quietly, and has left the blogosphere debating over whether or not his dismissal was justified or not.
Simon Cowell, who is beginning his final year as a judge for Idol, divulged that he did not know the reason for Golightly's elimination, but vowed to find out. He also urged Golightly to audition for his new show, The X-Factor, which will be hitting FOX this fall.
This brings up an interesting question about what will be going down on The X-Factor. Will past hopefuls who didn't make it on Idol try and make it on the other show. If Golightly does go for a spot on the new series, he won't be alone. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see more Idol rejects following Simon over to his new show after having not made it in American Idol.
Having said that, would you watch The X-Factor if it was overrun by former Idol hopefuls? After all, those who wanted to try out for a singing competition have probably already auditioned for Idol. It would be interesting to have a show full of the Golightlys and Josiah Lemings who didn't quite make it, but let's hope that X-Factor can manage to attract its own talent. Otherwise, it will play like a sub-par American Idol, except with Simon, who is leaving Idol's judge's panel to create and presumably judge The X-Factor, which is slated to premiere on FOX this fall. It should be interesting to see how the two shows fare, and whether or not Idol can survive without Simon.
I hadn't planned on watching X-factor, but if Chris Golightly auditions and makes it, I will definitely be watching it. I don't classify him as an "Idol reject" since he was unjustly booted because of an expired contract without even having a chance to be rejected for his talent or lack there of. Personally, I thought the kid had pipes.
Kudos to you for remembering Josiah, he is indeed awesome and deserved to make it much farther. As did Chris Golightly.I still believe that right wins out in the end and whatever happens to both they will somehow get their big break.
Josiah actually has a Warner Bros. music contract, and is set to put out an album this year.
Yes Simon I will try out for X Factor,I will better myself, and prepare harder then ever! I wont let a greedy Ex Dumbass Manager take my Dream. I am not singing for myself but for those who have been told "Your not good enough and it can't happen", those who were in the Social Service System "Foster Care" and If I were to Win 60% of what I make from the show will be given back to those with nothing. I am doing it cause I believe in Truly Helping people. Not for the Money. I want to make a change in the world.I wish Idol would have seen where my heart was at…………
Chris…did you ever audition for the xfactor? if so did you make it through all three rounds AND recieve a call back? I am only asking because I don't think they are accepting past idol contestants….would love to hear your thoughts
