And So it Goes - American Top 3 Results

I sort of got the inkling last night who was going home. I'll tell you why in a minute, but first, let's get down to the nitty gritty.

The night began with an introduction to the top 3 and an extended advertisement for Super 8, which looks completely awesome. The kids took home cameras and a hug from JJ Abrams. I would have snuck a business card in his pocket, but whatever.

Instead of going in order I'm going to talk about the filler first, then the hometown visits, and then results.

There was a Ford video (which seem to be getting increasingly irrelevant yes?) on the beach.

Il Lovo? I missed their name but it was pretty awesome to hear Italian up on that stage sung by three classically trained (and handsome) men.

Nicole Scherzinger: I think I spelled your last name right, and I know you can sing, but why? She started her career as a theater and dance major and I just... Let's just say it wasn't my cup of tea.

On to the hometown visits.

Haley was first. For as cold and nasty as it was, she had a great turnout. I loved the interplay between her and the bodyguard, and her concert looked like a lot of fun.

Scotty's was insane. His face when Josh Turner came out onstage with him was priceless. Seeing him break down only made him more likeable in my book.

Lauren's was a bit weird. I understand why she wanted to tour the tornado devastated areas, but it made for a very weird homecoming package.

After a break, Scotty, and then Lauren made it to the finale.

See, yesterday, during the judge's pick round, both Scotty and Lauren were shown announcing it in front of  crowd. Haley? Inside of a car. I know from several sources she announced hers in a crowd too. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it's troubling that they had to reshoot that. It's troubling that there was the perception that she had no crowds, wasn't good enough.

I like Scotty and Lauren, and they'll have a solid finale. But will they make exciting song choices? Will they perform in any other way than they have in the last twelve weeks? Which one will step up?

I'm sort of sad, not just because Haley was my favorite. But because this season started with such a variety of singers, all of them so talented, and it's down to the two country teens.

The finale is going to be a little less kooky and a lot lees fun for me. I haven't been this sad since Allison Iraheta left. I hope Scotty and Lauren bring their A games. Haley deserves that much.
