His name is Phillip Phillips. Get over it. Last year American Idol had a 'chosen one' that made it all the way to the final two, but this year's preordained 'one who could win it all' looks like he should just skip the competition and go straight to the recording studio. Phillips appeared on the Premiere of American Idol's 11th season and floored the judges with his take on Superstition and the Michael Jackson classic Thriller. Let's let Phillip do the talking... er, singing:
Okay so dawgs, listen: it was a little bit pitchy here and there, but Phillips evoked some genuine awe from the American Idol judging panel. J`Lo called him 'special' and an 'artist', Randy said 'that guy was amazing', and Steven Tyler said something about a Lightening Rod ... I couldn't quite make that out.
At any rate, the American Idol production team certainly thinks this guy is a star. That was very obvious by the music-video quality camera work during the Thriller portion of the audition. Heck, if Kara DioGuardi were still on Idol she'd probably already be writing the lyrics to his first single - and figuring out how to make it all about her.
So any thoughts American Idol fans? Is Phillip Phillips Jr. already dominating your American Idol score card, or are you holding out to see the rest of the competition. Vote and comment.
