Arrow Books Glee Alum to Play Someone From Felicity’s Past

Premiere Of IFC Film's "The Canyons" - Red Carpet

Felicity Smoak is getting a boyfriend, and it turns out that he can sing.

Nolan Funk, most famous for his roles as Warbler nemesis Hunter Carlington on Glee and heartthrob Colin Jennings on Awkward will be guest starring in an upcoming episode of Arrow as Copper Seldon (definitely a Big Bang Theory shoutout, right?), Felicity’s “hacker boyfriend” from when she went to school at MIT. Funk first broke the news himself via his Instagram when he posted with the Arrow script.

Funk will appear in the fifth episode of Arrow season three, which is the greatly anticipated Felicity-centric hour, “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak.” However, it’s unclear whether his character will show up in present day, flashbacks, or possibly both. In addition to meeting Funk’s Cooper, the episode, which promises to to shed light on much of Felicity’s unknown backstory, will also introduce us to her mother, played by NYPD Blue actress, and fellow Glee alum, Charlotte Ross and whose name was just recently confirmed as “Donna” by Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim.

In addition to Glee and Awkward, Funk’s past TV credits include HellcatsLie to Me, SupernaturalCastle, and Warehouse 13. He’s also appeared in films, such as Riddick, The Canyons, House at the End of the Street, and X-Men 2.

Arrow is certainly shaking things up in the romance department for Felicity this season with the introductions of both Cooper and Ray Palmer, not to mention her past history with Barry Allen and her potential new relationship with Oliver.

Arrow returns for season three on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
