2011 American Music Award Nominations Announced

Nominations for the 2011 American Music Awards have been announced and once again, it seems like it's Adele's world and we're all just living in it.

The British songbird, who has more or less ruled the musical roost in 2011, picked up four nominations, for Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album (for 21), Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Artist of the Year. The nominations come not long after she won three Video Music Awards for "Rolling in the Deep", 21's gargantuan first single.

Following Adele is a cluster of artists with three nominations each, including Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and The Band Perry.

The only artists currently scheduled to perform are Katy Perry (possibly her new single "The One That Got Away") and Pitbull (possibly his new single with Chris Brown "International Love"), but look for a flurry of announcements between now and the show's November 20th premiere.

The American Music Awards determine their nominees based on chart figures, sales numbers, and social media buzz, with the winners decided by online fan voting. Last year, Justin Bieber emerged as the top winner, taking home all four awards he was nominated for. This year, Bieber managed one nomination.
