The Emmys Outstanding Drama Series Nominees - Essential Facts and Predictions

And the winner is ...

My Prediction: I predict Boardwalk Empire will win.  Boardwalk not only has a tremendous scope in terms of its narrative, it has to also create a rich world to ensure the suspension of disbelief.  Having succeeded so well in both aspects makes Boardwalk Empire the most outstanding piece of television on this list.  IMHO of course.

By The Numbers: We know the data really doesn't do much in terms of figuring out how the Emmy voters think, but for fun let's look at who wins based on the raw data.

  • Critical Sentiment: Blending the critics scores together, or rather having MetaCritic do it for us, we see that, indeed, Mad Men is the winner at 92, with The Good Wife at 89 and Boardwalk Empire at 88.
  • Viewer Sentiment:  Putting MetaCritics and IMDB's scores together (and considering that IMDB retains some redundant critic data), the clear winner is Game of Thrones, followed closely by Dexter and Boardwalk Empire.
  • Awards performance history: To be fair we look at this by a season average and Mad Men is the clear winner with 44.25 average nominations per season and 14 wins. No one else even comes close.

Bottom Line: Mad Men succeeds in more factors than any other show, making it predictably the odds on favorite.  This means the Emmys' final moments are either going to be predictable, or shocking.  Is Mad Men unstoppable?  Did someone  get snubbed this year?  Sound off below!

Other then "The Good Wife" these shows are low rated, this means the EMMYS show will likly also be low rated.
