Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson Among Performers Added to the AMAs

Less than a month before the show's November 20th premiere, the American Music Awards have added Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson, and Mary J. Blige to its performance roster. Previously announced as performing are Katy Perry and Pitbull, the latter of which helped announce nominees for the 39th annual AMAs.

It's a pretty solid crop of new additions, but a performance-heavy awards show like the American Music Awards is only just getting started. Last year's ceremony had a whopping 18 performances from a random assortment of music's brightest stars and respected veterans, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the 2011 AMAs matched or surpassed that total.

Each of the five new performers is either getting ready to release new music or will have relatively new music out before the show premieres, as Bieber's Christmas album is due on November 1st, Clarkson's new album was released today, Blige's My Life sequel will arrive the week of the AMAs, and Maroon 5's Hands All Over re-release has been in stores a short while. Aguilera, Perry, Pitbull, and Bieber all performed last year, with Blige, Clarkson, and Maroon 5 having made appearances in the past.

Leading the AMA nominations this year is Adele, who is having a year to remember by anyone's standards. She's at the head of the pack with four nominations (including one for Artist of the Year), while the likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga picked up three. You still have time to vote for the winners by heading over to the show's website.

Who would you like to see perform at this year's AMAs? Of the most recent additions, who do you think will put on the best performance? Are you planning on watching the American Music Awards this year?
