Golden Globes: Ricky Gervais to Host for Final Time in 2012

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that he'll be hosting the Golden Globes for the third and final time in 2012.

In a post on his blog, the fifty-year-old comedian announced that he would be returning to host the awards ceremony, even after his controversial stint as host earlier this year.

"It was a tough decision to be honest. There were many pros and cons," Gervais wrote, "I loved doing it, but I was worried that I couldn't improve on last year. I knew some people would be uncomfortable with me being host. (This was a pro by the way.)"

Noting that he'd be in Los Angeles working on bringing his new sitcom Life's Too Short to HBO, Gervais decided to take the plunge and host. Of course, there was another reason: "What actually tipped the balance and made me say yes, was the fact that it would shut up all those f**king idiots who said that I'd never be invited back. Is that the wrong reason to do something? Ha ha. I think it is."

Gervais promised to be even more offensive with his humor the third time around. "The outrage I caused [last year] was of course, as usual, totally out of proportion to the things I said. I don't think anyone had any right to be offended but they were. This year I'm going to make sure their offence is completely justified."

The second episode of Gervais's new sitcom, Life's Too Short, airs tonight in the U.K. The series will come to HBO early in 2012.

The 2012 Golden Globes will air on January 15, 2012.
