We're less than a week from the 2011 Video Music Awards and as such, MTV has been making final adjustments to the presenter line-up, the performance roster, and the all-important host debate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beyonce has been named as the latest VMA performer, joining show opener Lady Gaga, Adele, Chris Brown, Young the Giant, Bruno Mars, Ne-Yo, and Pitbull. The 29-year-old megastar, who released her fourth solo studio album earlier this summer, last performed at the VMAs in 2009 and will likely be performing her next single, titled "Party", which heads to radio August 30th.
The rumored tribute to Amy Winehouse looks to be gaining steam, as Billboard is reporting that Tony Bennett has been tapped to take part in the proceedings. It'll be the legend's first VMA appearance since 1994, where he'll introduce the tribute with footage of the recording of "Body and Soul", Winehouse's last recording. There's been no word on what will be shown during the Winehouse tribute or if any other artist will be participating, but the 2011 VMAs will be paying tribute to another female artist with a planned celebration of Britney Spears.
In surprising news, MTV has decided that the 2011 Video Music Awards will be without a host. As recently as yesterday, the show's executive producer told Billboard that they were still searching for a host, but The Huffington Post has revealed that the VMA website has been updated to say that the ceremony will be without a host. It'll be the third time in history that the VMAs will be without host, following the 2004 ceremony in Miami and the 2006 ceremony in Las Vegas. Last year's ceremony, the highest rated since 2002, was hosted by E! comedian and future sitcom star Chelsea Handler.
Who else would you like to see added to the performance list? What do you hope to see out of the Amy Winehouse tribute? Is going host-less a good idea for the VMAs?
The performers roster for this year already includes Lady Gaga, Chris Brown, Adele, Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne, Young the Giant, Pitbull and Ne-Yo. http://bit.ly/rjssHe
