The artwork for Boardwalk Empire's first season, with its flashy lettering and silhouetted Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), was pretty striking. For season two, though, the poster widened its focus from one character to the entire cast. Vulture premiered the new poster on Thursday, and it looks great.
The tagline "Knows Who's Behind You" captions the wide image, with a paranoid Nucky looking suspiciously at the collection of characters who line the image, while Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) clings to his arm, looking equally suspicious. Both are menaced by the advancing Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon), who looks just about ready to assassinate old Nuck.
The placement of the characters, as Vulture pointed out, is most likely incredibly deliberate, a sort of Last Supper for TV posters. It'll be interesting to see how the poster translates to a more vertical version, considering just how many people are packed in from side to side.
What do you think? Does this poster get you excited for the new season of HBO's returning gangster drama?
