What’s Next for Booth & Brennan
Booth’s current emotional vulnerability after his proposal was turned down by Hannah means that nothing can happen between Booth and Brennan right away. But the duo will be ready to discuss where they stand during the March 17 episode when they get stuck together in an elevator. But executive producer Stephen Nathan told EW that there are some difficulties facing the pair. After all, Booth made it clear at the end of the last episode that he only wanted Brennan to be his partner, because he’s simply not ready for another potential heartbreak: “I think it is setting up that next difficulty between them, which is ‘We’re just partners now.’ If they jump right back into their old relationship, it wouldn’t be real. Then the whole thing with Hannah was a lie. And if that’s the case, then you can’t trust anything that happens emotionally with these characters” Nathan says.
The Sniper Returns
Booth’s newest nemesis, an old sniper buddy who killed The Gravedigger to get Booth’s attention, will return on March 10. Nathan says that Booth is determined to capture the sniper on March 10, but this dredges up a lot of his own insecurities about being a sniper and what kind of a man that makes him. Is he any better than his current nemesis or do people realize how morally difficult it is for him to pull a trigger?
The Spin-Off
Geoff Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan have been cast as the leads in the Bones spin-off that could potentially air next year. But before that happens, Booth and Brennan will travel down to Florida in the April 21 episode to meet up with these characters and introduce this potential new series. Stults will be playing Walter Sherman, who served in Iraq with Booth as a military policeman. Now Stults in known as “The Locator” and has a knack for finding people and things that others can’t.
Upcoming Episode Cases
The April 14 episode will feature the team investigating a “body farm”. Body farms are forensic labs at universities where corpses are put in different situations/environments to see how they will decompose. Apparently there’s a flood at a particular farm and all of these body parts are washed up on the shore (gross!).
The May 5 episode, meanwhile, will feature a woman who is deaf, of indeterminate age, and covered in blood while holding a knife. The team discovers and tracks down the person she killed and then sets out to determine why she did it and what her motive was. This is a big episode for Brennan in understanding how important motive in. Nathan said that this is a very different episode from any that they’ve done before, because the investigation focuses on a live human being, which throws Brennan for a loop.
Will Hannah Return?
While Nathan leaves the door open for Hannah to return in the future, he really doesn’t think that will happen this season. He also believes that Hannah wasn’t trying to be cruel in turning down Booth’s proposal: “It was honest, and it was with great regret.”
