My Life on the D-List is Over

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s the end of a television era. According to Chicagopride.com, Kathy Griffin has announced the end of My Life on the D-List.

It’s an expected move but a sad move nonetheless. After six seasons, two Emmys, and innumerable boxes of wine, Team Griffin simply outgrew the D-List label and the central concept of the show wasn’t really applicable anymore. Sure, the show itself was still insanely funny, but it wasn’t the same low budget tale of a former sitcom star trying to climb her way to the top that it was when it started out. Kathy Griffin hasn’t really been on the D-List for a while, so it makes sense to move on. I mean, when you win Emmys, co-host CNN’s New Years celebration several years running, and have a cavalcade of A-List guest stars, you no longer really “need” the reality show, especially if you actually have a talent to fall back on.

Griffin isn’t leaving Bravo in her dust, though, as she’s said to have signed on to star in four stand-up specials in the next calendar year, which would bring the red-haired comedienne to a total of 12, all through Bravo. While Kathy has “grown up”, so has Bravo, as the Real Housewives franchise has turned the channel from being “Project Runway and everything else” to a bonafide contender in the ratings night in and night out. Had D-List drawn ratings in the ballpark of said franchise, I could have seen the show going for one more season “for the fans”, but alas, we’ll have to settle for 47 episodes of Kathy’s outrageousness, Tom’s eyelashes, Tiffany’s laugh, Larry the Insurance Salesman's business conferences, and Maggie’s boozing.

Will you miss My Life on the D-List? What’s your favorite D-List moment of all time?
