After two major announcements involving the future of Bravo's Real Housewives franchise (Miami getting a live reunion show and no more cities being added to the roster), a third ball has been dropped for the popular reality series when Radar Online unofficially announced that the Real Housewives of D.C. would not be getting a second season from Bravo. The website claimed that a source close to the "situation" declared that the second season should have been filming at the moment, but that the cast (which includes Stacie Turner, Cat Ommanney, Lynda Erkiletian, and Mary Schmidt Amons) hadn't heard from the Bravo brass as of yet.
There are parts of the articlw that I can't help but take with a grain of salt, but since Radar has been heads on with most of their Real Housewives news, I have to remain on the fence on whether or not to believe the hype. With that said, this news does fit into the string of eye-raising scenarios that have popped up recently involving the Real Housewives franchise. Along with the previous three situations I've alreaady listed, you can also add the sudden appearance of RHMIA on Bravo's roster and the bumping of RHONY's fourth season to a later date to the evidence of the once popular franchise currently being in a rut of sorts. So in terms of this information, could this be the end of an era for the Real Housewives of Bravo?
Yes... and no.
On the 'yes' side of things, the Real Housewives have taken over the Bravo network with different incarnations of the show popping up all over the place. Since the series premiere of The Real Housewives of Atlanta on October 7, 2008, there has always been new episodes of the Real Housewives brand on Bravo's schedule with breaks lasting only a couple of days to a week before the start of a new season. In the past nine months, three new incarnations were introduced as well as new seasons of previous RH staples, not counting specials and spinoff shows (Bethenny Getting Married?, The Real Housewives Top 25: The Early Years). In short, oversaturation of the franchise is an understatement.
While there might be several months to a year in between new seasons of Atlanta or Orange County, the fact is that the Real
Housewives moniker is a constant presence on TV screens, blogs, and tabloids nowadays, making it hard for the heart to grow fonder of the top sorority of Bravo. While Andy Cohen is a genius in marketing this franchise to its utmost ability, there have been some hits and misses as of late (most notably RHODC and RHMIA) that even the most die-hard/challenged of Real Housewives fans cannot ignore. Fans and bloggers attribute most of the backlash to the show not giving them a breather after a new series/season ends. The old saying "no rest for the wicked" does not apply to these group of women, who have been dubbed to overstay their welcome.
To some, the above paragraphs could be used to make a strong case against the Real Housewives domination, there are some things to look at that could counter said argument, number one being the fans.
The Real Housewives franchise has a strong fanbase that clamours for more about their favorite reality stars in every medium. There are various clubs, Twitter groups, and Facebook pages devoted to the show/shows and with the first four series (RHOOC, RHONY, RHOA, RHONJ) now currently in syndication and repeats running during the daytime on Bravo, the fanbase is growing by the day. The fans are passionate as well about the women as they make sure to tweet questions to Andy Cohen during Watch What Happens Live! and leave strings of comments on blogs and entertainment sites even if they don't watch RHODC or RHONY. They want their voices heard and are not afraid to stalk one of the Housewives on Twitter to get their point across. Basically, the fan are invested in the lavish lifestyles of these women and want to snicker, bicker, and criticize them every chance they get, no matter how much they claim otherwise. However, the fans know what they want, and it sure isn't drama for drama purposes, which is what has been dished out of RHMIA and RHODC.
With Cohen establishing a sort of cease and desist order on further installments of the franchise, Bravo is looking at the big picture and do not want to tarnish the RH name. If they do decide to cancel RHODC and/or RHMIA (I have to hear it from Bravo's lips first), then they are only dumping the damaged cargo from the mothership and can still survive scrutiny. New seasons of RHONY, RHONJ, and RHOBH are highly anticipated and will be ratings gold once they return to the air, so don't count the Real Housewives out just yet.
So now I wonder what you think. Is the Real Housewives franchise working on their last 15 minutes of fame?
God I hope this sh*t goes away! What a waste of time, life and energy! Who watches this stuff anyway? Every time I channel surf and see any of the wives anywhere, I just want to kick the TV in!!!
Honestly, if you don't like it then you can just ignore it. Don't try and spoil for other housewives fans. If you are not a fan, more power to you but don't try to ruin it for real housewives fans. Take your crap to ESPN
I completely agree… I don't go into the ESPN forums just to complain about how boring sports are! lol Leave us to watch our Reunion specials in peace! haha
As a huge RH fan, i agree that its oversaturated. We used to wait between seasons, and now not only are there no breaks, but they run multiple series at the same time!
Miami and DC need to go, and spread out the others!
As a fan, I think Miami and DC should definitely be canceled. Miami is just terrible – the girls are just mean and full of themselves. There isn't a single likeable person on that show.
As a fan of RH of Atlanta, and Beverly Hills, im starting to enjoy the RH of Miami simply because they are latin women. they just need to show a better side of them, not the lavish life they live.
RH Miami sucks – I really do NOT care for all the Latina women: there's Lea and the rest are perpetual high school – nice area and rotten series/town – no interest in these people. Some don't even seem to own a house – they're continuous clubbing teenagers.
Won't cry over the loss of DC – really boring -no one has time for anything but work unless they are the Salahi extreme of absolute plastic
fake — we'll just fake it on drugs and pretend we're making it until we have to hide under a rock 'cause we failed.
@ JP, you must be as ugly as your comments above. I'm sure if they had a reality series about you, no-one would be in the least interested in YOU either!
BUT LOVE*LOVE*LOVE RH Beverly Hills!!!
I gave Miami Housewives a try and found the Latin theme boring actually degrading to the people in Miami.
Marrying into money does not make one have class or manners.
Over indulgence is not attractive either.
DC and Miama need to be canceled. The women are not interesting and the episodes are boring. However, I cannot get enough of Orange County, New York, or Beverly Hills. I love the dynamics of the cast!!! (I can take or leave ATL and New Jersey)
Love Beverly Hills, NY, OC and Atl. Do not like NJ, DC and Miami. But love Bethenny more than any housewives show.
Honestly people should give Miami a chance, as it wasn't originally a Housewives show, plus it was just kind of thrown out there without any promotion since New York wasn't ready yet.
DC, on the other hand, had major promotion and a thousand chances: it still sucked. Cat was the only saving grace on that show, and for that she should be moved to New York and replace that fugly new character they are trying to introduce.
Gold, so keep em comin!= ATL and Beverly Hills
Getting Old= NYC, NJ
Get Rid of= DC, OC
Give another chance= Miami
OC is the original show but with the new person Fernanda with Tamra gives it a different direction, NJ does not have that appeal anymore, NYC is the same possibly if Jill, Kelly and the countess left the show it may not fall in the same routine. DC is gone, BH was good Taylor is questionable? Atlanta got a fresh change with Phaedra. With Miami why so short of a season? it was enough with Cristy, Adriana and Larsa……
RHONYC NEED ALL NEW WIVES,BUT LEAVE COUNTESS SHES FUNNY,PENOIT WINE LADY,THE CAN GO.NEW JERSEY I LOVE,D.C.& MIAMI BORING.WE NEED SOME MOR AFRICAN AMERICANS.
Oh, Yes, and of course I think Marysol and her psychic mom Elsa of Miami should DEFINITELY get a spinoff if another season of Miami is not in the cards
The "Watch What Happens Live" episode featuring Elsa and MarySol with Andy Cohen was as good or better than the series.
Stick a fork in RHOOC because it's done. Same with NJ.
Have to agree there is way too much hawking of Real Housewives merchandise on all shows.
Bring back Miami, for God's sakes, how fair is it that you don't even give the viewers a chance to like this show when there are only a few episodes aired and the other RH shows had numerous episodes before their finale! Get rid of RHOOC they SUCK! (BORING as all hell) and get rid of RHOA & DC! (Worst!)Ugh!!
RHOA IS THE BEST ONE ON T.V.AND MIAMI IS THE WORST ALONG WITH D.C.ARE U BLIND.
Some people (I am not saying everybody in this blog) made comments about not liking RH Miami because the "Latin theme was boring". Camuflaged racism…sorry. Judging people because of being latino…
Agreed. It's not the right attitude to take.
Unfortunately, I have to say that it is incredible that people think that being latin American or latino is a race. It is not. People born in Latin American countires can be white ( if there of European decent), Black ( if they are from Afro-American decent) Asian, ( if they are from Asian decent), Indian ( if they are from Indian decent ) and mixed if they are from a mix from one or more races. Just like in the old USA!!!! Beleive it or not, contrary to popular opoinion. Hispanic or Latino is not a race, It is a region of the world in witch you were born. For example if youre parents were Swedish and you happen to be born in an African country does that make you black?
I completely disagree. I dont think that anyone is saying they dont like the Latino culture, just that they shouldn't have tried to make it the number one descriptor of these woman. We all come from some dominant culture or another that shapes who we are, but its not all that we are. I think that making one's race, or in this case cultural background, their defining feature is more judgemental than anything else. They could have shown us how their culture played into their lives, and those of many in Miami, without emphasizing over and over and over look how Hispanic these people are! Aren't they Hispanic, with their Hispanic culture, in which they do Hispanic things…
Meh and I just realized that someone will probably get upset with me using the word Hispanic. Honestly, I'm not sure what the right term is, latino? But I was reading some one else's comment that they are a lot more diverse than I assumed anyways; which just makes me think once again that they did the individual women an injustice by trying to lump them all into one culture that they wanted to define them. Haha ok I'm done with my longwinded spiel
I LOVE RHOA, RHBH, RHOC, RHNJ and I like RHMIA but I cannot STAND RHONY! The only person on NY who was interesting was Bethany and the rest are Hideous, Mean and Psychotic! All of their homes make me clausterphobic (sp?) just looking at them. I say give Miami another chance and get rid of NY! Yuck.
Have watched HW from day one. MIAMI has to go. Sorry, but the Latin woman display why they get a bad wrap. Larsa and Kristys behaviors, beyond disgusting. Enjoy firing people, not paying, lying, using, and if they were poor, they be sucking our tax dollars for all the freebies. Enough of the me, me me attitudes. Cannot stomach the show and sick of people calling others racist when women acting like that make your their own culture look like low lives. Larsa and Kristy, selfish broads who had nothing till they married money, period. Bring on the comments, could give a crap. Moving on.
The problem with Real Housewives, especially New York, is it feels like I am watching an Infomercial inside a show. The women are constantly using the show to sell their books, music CD'S, exercise DVD's, alcohol, beauty make-up line, beauty cream line, jewelry line, tee-shirt line, fashion line. Buy my book. Buy my music. Look at my new fashion, make-up, beauty cream. It Goes On And On And On. And, what the women do not say, they wear their ads on their clothes. Even the new shows, BH and Miami jumped on that bandwagon from day one. Housewives is not a show anymore, it's a never ending commercial.
After learning that the real housewives of miami wasn't originally a real housewives show, i kind of get why it wasn't all that it could be in terms of drama/excitement. Idk why, i can't explain it, but i feel like maybe if they brought it back, a second season might be really good! Plus, it would be a shame to let characters like Lea Black and Elsa go to waste :( lol.
Love the NYC, Beverly Hills and Atlanta "housewives" franchise. I think the OC has jumped the shark though. Never watched DC, and Miami was boring, except for Mama Elsa. Maybe Bravo could do a spinoff featuring her. I really love Top Chef series though!
Dump NJ, OC, DC, Miami (except Elsa); Get rid of certain housewives on the other shows; i.e., Taylor (BH), Jill and Kelly (NY)…..
NJ–with new gals antagonistic to Teresa, even Caroline–may perhaps be salvageable.
DC didn't live up to hype. And the Salahis sealed it's doom. Miami==absolutely worthless.
Atlanta is a trashy hoot.
After watching the reunion show for the Miami Housewives, I know that is not worth watching a second season. Cristy, Larsa and Adriana have shown to be immature and classless, Cristy does not own up to anything, Larsa is blind to her situation everywhere on the net you can see the failure of Scottie and his finances, Adriana really needs to take a step back and keep her mouth shut. Lea is classy, Alexia does not get involved too much and Marysol with her mom should get their own show because the lady is a riot! BH and OC will survive, NJ should get new people, Atlanta is another that I don't watch much but I think Phaedra brings a different air to the show, DC was gone after the Salahis stunt!
the rhomia is bad cause there all latinas that married into money? first of all Lea is white, larsa is Lebanese, Adriana is brazilian they speak portugese not spanish though brazil is ne of the fastest growing economies in the americas and compleatly oil independent, christy is of cuban decent but has her own business and has for 12years, marisol is of cuban decent who by the way built lower florida and the average cuban family in this coutry has a higher per capita then iowa, alabama etc.. most states. And the blonde blue eye latina manages one of the biggest latin magazines in the united States. Theres 50 million legan Hispanics in the USA and growing get use to it. the west
Have to confess that watching the housewives various incarnations is my guilty pleasure! Unfortunately, as a Latin American woman, I was really embarrased by the Miami version of the show. Really disapointing obnoxious ladies who do everything to shame and nothing in my opinion to enhance the intelligent beautiful and hardworking latin American women that I know. Just as an afterthought, to all the housewives, PLEASE STOP INJECTING YOURSELVES EXCESIVELY WIHT BOTOX,YOU'RE BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE CARTOON CARACTERS!!!!!!!!!
The RHW of Miami = HORRIBLE!!!!!! Adriana needs to get over herself she is not that beautiful with those bulging crazy eyes. She was terrible on the Reunion Show. Didn't know if she was speaking English or Spanish. Lea Black = Annoying voice and annoying laugh! Maryisol and Elsa = Plastic Surgery at its worse. Larsa and Christy = TRASH hidden in designer clothes! The bleach blonde chick = don't even remember her name – my point exactly! Hands down the worse RHW of them all. And I have watched. So back in fact the Reunion show left Andy speechless and we all know that never happens.
THAT WAS SAID PERFECTLY!!!!!! COULD NOT HAVE BEEN STATED BETTER!
I think people are taking these shows way too serious. They are meant for entertainment purposes only! We really shouldn't judge any of these women, it is not easy to let cameras into your home and live out your life in front of millions of people. Then on top of all of that let those people make comments on what they think they know or see. When it comes to any of these types of shows, there is always editing. There are people paid to choose what we see and don't see. If anything, we should praise these women for being brave enough to do it!
As far as the different franchises go, I think all of them are good except DC and OC. The DC show was just boring and the OC is kind of played out. I think they should give Miami a chance, I was just
starting to get into it. The comments about not wanting to see a bunch of Latinas was "racist-ish". Even if it wasn't intended to be. Just be careful when you say things like that, and don't get so deffensive if someone takes it that way. If you didn't mean it that way then you have no reason to be upset. If it bothered you that much, then maybe you need to take a second look at yourself!
RACISM DOES STILL EXIST PEOPLE! JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE SOME EQUALITY AND YOU DON'T SEE IT AS OPENLY DOESN'T MEAN IT IS COMPLETELY GONE!
P.S. The comment about the show being a never-ending commercial, don't hate on these women trying to get there hustle on! If it were me I would do the exact same thing and so would you! That was a lot of "haterade" you spit out!
Look, it's all pretty much bull to begin with , don't you think? Some of it is very entertaining and some of it is
crap. Our lives are pretty boring compared to all this… I really enjoy looking at the clothes, jewelry, makeup etc. that's pretty much what draws me! if the story line catches me sometimes it's fun too, but it's not like they are
"REALLY ACTORS!." Look at it just from a fun perspective and maybe you'll enjoy the scenery more!!!!!
I do…don't be so serious!
LOVE the RH shows!!! If you don't like 'em don't watch 'em. Hills is the BEST, followed by NY and OC. Hotlanta well it wasn't so hot last season, hope the next one is better. NJ…don't know wha to expect this season without Danielle…but she did HAVE to go.
Miami…..seriously DISGUSTED by it. I am sure Bravo can do MUCH better in S. Florida than this group of classless ladies.DC , tuned out after 2 episodes, soo glad it was dumped by Bravo. Andy's What what Happens Live, LOVE IT. The Bethenny shows got to keep 'em, they make you LOL continously!!!
All of the shows have developed a meaner, nastier undertone. Backbiting, insulting, two- faced, instigating, slutty at times, have become the normal way of behaving. The only thing that can be learned from any of their behavior is how NOT to behave. Watch what happens is snarky and degrading. In the beginning, it felt as if they were friends — now — mortal enemies who are face friendly.
Atlanta – worth watching for the most part
DC – ok for the most part
OC – jumped the shark with season 5, but interesting at times
NY – horrible - needs to go NOW
Miami – didn't watch – no interest
BH – who wants to see a reincarnation of OC – rich, skinny blonds? – no interest in watching
NJ – horrible - Andy needs to pull the plug now
All in all, Bravo needs to give up the franchise, but is not ready to give up the cash cow – and I guess I can't blame them?
I LOVE this Show ! , Great Entertainment ! If I had the opportunity to BANG these ” Ladies ” LOL!, This is the order I would choose.
1) Cristy Rice- Smoking Body ( Great Ass nice Thighs )
2) Adriana – Nice Tits, Pretty, Ok Ass
3) Alexia – Pretty, Nice Legs, Elegant.
4) Larsa Pippen- Very Pretty with Great Tits but Totally FLAT ASS! I am Surprised A “Brother” as they say would marry a girl with such a FLAT ASS! But I would definitely do her Missionary Style.
5) Marysol Patton-
6 ) Leah Black
PLease, please, pleeeeeease CANCEL RH of MIAMI! they are soooo plastic ! . Keep: RH of Atlanta, NJ and beverly hills, worth watching
I was born and raised in Miami and can say I was disappointed with the show. It was not diverse enough for me. Miami is not a hispanic or latin place. There are asian, indian, black, white and more. They gave it a latin theme which is ok but not for representing my city. Plus the show was so boring! Stop making Miami look like one thing because it's not. Also they could have added some darker skin latinas.
THEY ARE ALL TRASH AND THATS WHAT ANDY COHEN PRODUCES SPEWES AND SLEEPS WITH
TRASH WHITE TRASH
