'Breaking Bad' Season 4 Delayed

July 2011 seems a long way away, doesn't it? It sounds almost... futuristic.
Unfortunately, that futuristic date will be the premiere of Breaking Bad's fourth season, which has been pushed back four months from its original March start date, according to Deadline TV.
""I think what AMC is thinking here is there will be less competition for us -- particularly from the broadcast networks -- if we launch our season during the summer than if we come back again like we did this time in March," shared star Bryan Cranston, who plays the main character Walter White on AMC's hit series.
If you're worried about still having a year to get your Breaking Bad fix, don't worry. AMC will be churning out mini-episodes for you over the break. The show goes back into production in January, when these short clips (less than five minutes) will be filmed.
"The idea is to keep people aware and interested in the show during the long time away. But I, for one, am eager to make these little interstitials important. I don't want them to be simply filler or recap, but something that actually moves the storyline forward. If we're going to do it, it ought to be a real part of the larger show," Cranston shared.
This means, unfortunately for the show, that it will miss the window of opportunity for next year's Emmys. If Bryan Cranston wins for Best Actor in a Drama this year, he won't be able to go for four-in-a-row, which is kind of sad.
In any case, this move will push either Mad Men or Rubicon out of the way to make room for Bad. Could we see a delayed second season for Rubicon, or an early one? Or will we start seeing a spring premiere for Mad Men? How this affects the rest of the schedule is a big question, and we're all still trying to figure it out.

I don't really see how the mini-episodes can keep forward momentum going on the plot. At the end of the season finale we were left with a huge cliffhanger…would it not be wrong to resolve that in a mini-episode rather than in episode one of season 4? I'm not happy about the delay, and wonder if it's being done so that a Michael C. Hall or Hugh Laurie can finally get an Emmy for their work.

I think they may be planning on doing insight-ful flashbacks with the main characters (I.e. Walt, Jesse), like Jesse and Walt in school, in a way moving the "psychological plot" forward, if that makes sense.
And show you what happened at the time of the big season finale events with the rest of the peeps. I for one, would want to see what Hank, Skyler and Gus did, while it all went down.
Everyone is so impatient. Relax, it is going to be here before you know it. If this is your number one worry then you have a good life.

I think the show airing over the summer is a bad idea. Typically in the summer months I am very busy. Its really the only time of year Oregon sees no rain. Part of what makes breaking bad extra great was it was aired during the spring months when all it does is piss week after week. Love this show. but have a bad feeling I will be missing a lot of the episodes next season due to the dates its set to air.
As far as the minisode ideas. I think that is a rather stupid idea. they make sense when the show is airing. but pushing the story forward with minisodes. I would rather wait til the show airs to see the story progress. And hopefully conclude itself as the final season. This is really one of the greatest shows to come down the pike in a long time. And I think it would be wise to quit while they are ahead. Leaving a great legacy of work.

Now, I see this as being sad. Breaking Bad is my favorite show hands down, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. As for the mini-episodes less than five minutes is a little short don't you think?! My opinion is, if their going to have mini episodes they should take up a fifteen minute block like Aqua Teen Hunger Force or other series on adult swim. Personally I think it will keep viewers a little more interested during break time while still giving them time to wait on their upcoming season. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who thinks five minutes is just not enough time for this amazing show. It can be slow (not saying that's bad because of the suspense) but is five minutes going to still keep the suspense really interesting? Please, let me know how all of you feel about these mini-episodes. :D

Although this is a real bummer to hear that we have to wait until next year to find out what happens next, I'm thrilled to hear that there will in fact be a forth season. Best show on tv without a doubt, I'm re watching the first two seasons, just finished watching the episode 'Over' with Walt claiming his territory, I will never cook meth in Arizona. Keep the seasons comin Gilligan!
Couldn't agree more man, the "slowness" of the show is the best part, it's all about the character development and it works, this is definitely my favorite show thats on right now, possibly of all time haha. But yeah, the mini episodes are gonna be way too short, five minutes for a show that is originally 46 minutes! Give me a break!

I really enjoy this show as well. just 1 medium critics. On the 1st season the melodramatic parts were much shorter. Sometimes i got the feeling that a specific show is almost completely filled with talks about family issues. The ploy evolving quiet slowly on those specific shows. As well the intro scenes are less and less spectacular. The 1st show of season 3 started beautifully (those mexican man crawling on the floor or the swimming pool and the toys of the 1st seasons). i hope season 4 will go back a bit more to what´s nice in this show. a bit more surrealistic moments and less ordinary life debates about family issues or basic self questioning of the characters about their personal emotional relations to others
Breaking Bad is a great show. But the time between seasons is way too long. Almost to the point I don't want to get involved with it again.
Don't make the same mistake they made with the Sopranos. There was such a long delay between seasons people lost interest, and it's really hard to get that back.
Consistency is important. It looks like a ploy to garner more interest but, in fact, will have the opposite effect. I don't even have AMC, I get my content from iTunes without those pesky commercials, so it doesn't matter to me what shows Breaking Bad competes with I'm not interested in them. Also there are DVR's or other technologies that allow the public to manage their own viewing schedules. Season 3 seemed to take forever to come out also. I'm Breaking Mad I going to have to wait an additional 3 months for the show.

This is the same thing that happened during NYPD Blue, they delayed the next season for sooooo long that I lost interest and stopped watching. I will watch this again, it is such a good show, but it makes me very leary about following any new series AMC might put out. AMC is too worried about the other channels and not caring about the viewers. It takes a comitment on the viewers part to follow a series and if you screw with that, you lose the viewer. BTW, Rubicon had great potential and then it got screwed up with too little story content.

I think making everyone what that long sucks and you will lose a lot of veiwers being that lazy. personally i dont care this is typical. if your have followed this show from the start as i have. there was a writers strike during the middle of the first season, and they didnt release season 2 for a year and a half after the first had ended. look at the numbers, this show just seems to pick up momentum even if it is at a dead stop. nonetheless… i am anticipating the return with all the love an ex meth head could. youll wait forever to get a fix. im waiting patiently for mine.

My all time favorite show but seriously, how do they expect people to maintain interest in a show as intense and complex in plot with this much delay? It's not like any random show where you just pick up and start every episode. I have everything on disc, but to be honest, the prospect of having to wait another 6 months and then have to go through every season again to be up to date is something I'm not sure if I'm willing to do as most people I know who watch the show.

The reson they pushed the date is to make rating aka more money whitch is resonable because this is a quality series not a quantity to bad the miniepisodes can`t be viewed outside USA and Canada but you can use a proxy, last summer i mangaed to bypass this limitation by going direct to the stream not using the amc default player but now it doesen`t work anymore maybe when the new season start there won`t be this BS limitation.Anyway peopole will post on youtube the stuff :)

aside from the annoying delay,I for one would love to see the show start as originally schedule….just so Cranston could do a repeat of SNL and show up for his award(emmy) in his underwear. AMC has to know competition with other shows is not an issue….if its playing we`re watching!!! It`s impressive that a show this edgy with such controversial subject matter is entering a 4th season. I expected the censers, the right wing religious,and the unseen powers that be , to attack and kill the show before season two.

It is surely worth the wait. Less competition and longevity, a great strategy on the part of AMC. This show is great on so many levels and I believe it wont disappoint.

SO I've been watching the rebroadcast eps of Breaking Bad that AMC has been running and decided to hop online and see when season four would air. As a DISH customer/employee I have the Logitech Revue with Google TV so it just took one click of a button and I go from TV to Internet, right there on my 52 in HD flat, and came across this article. Thanks for the info, and though I want to see the series as soon as possible like everyone else I trust AMC to do what's right for the show…Look how awesome it's been so far, it get's better every single season, how many other shows, not just now but EVER can say that? Only a handful, and this is one of the best examples. You really think AMC is going to drop the ball on their most critically acclaimed series? Nope.

i love this show but it does suck it takes way toooo long to air. i cant wait til it comes back the last episode of season 3 was nuts, it left us wanting to know what the hell was going to happen after that and it suck to wait a year to see what unfolds. i know i am going to watch the last 2-3 episodes of season3 right before season 4 comes out just to recap anything i might have forgotten over this log period of time between seasons. i cant believe they show crap horrible garbage like jersey shore more than once a year .it airs like 2 seasons a year why cant they show break bad like every 6 months. u got to wait a year plus and it is way tooo top quality to be put on the back burner. it is so amazing and i am a good show ad movie junkie, i kow what is good and whats garbage and breaking bad is a 100 percent amazement. sure the first few episodes from each season are slow but its building up to a story that unfolds and gets more incredible every episode. i hope someoe agrees

The AMC website has nothing–NOTHING!–about Season 4. Even a site search turns up 0 results. A Google search turns up nothing. Why is AMC being so secretive and vague? Even Netflix is already advertising Season 4 (just to make it even more confusing.) And why are Season 3 episodes only running only once and at 2:00 a.m. here in the LA area? I gave up on the show last year but my family keeps asking me to look for updates.
I didn't get hooked till 2nd season, so there's alot I've missed. What the eggheads should have done is started over the reruns at a decent hour. Some people work to pay the high price of cable just to be able TO WATCH IT! Can't find vcr's anymore to record it. But i can't wait for July! I'll be ready.

What the heck? and to add, why isn't Season 3 available to purchase? What is going on? My favorite show is disappointing me. C'mon AMC!
The delay is very disappointing. But since I dvr everything anyway I think i'll live. But there are some good points here. Why air in mid summer when most of us will not be indoors watching tv? The way I see it, if you are a true fan of the show, which I am, then you are going to watch it in March, July or whenever! I think there is some other reason behind the delay AMC is not telling us.

DVR doesn't give them ratings tho so if everyone dvrs it while their out kicking it during summer the ratings will PLUMIT. They should have started it in march like planned or april cut off for summer and bring it back in mid august. This way they keep their ratings up, We get more seasons of the great walter white and Jess Pinkman cooking up meth and cooking up drama. Simply put: Summer ratings for any show suck compared to shows on other seasons so why have it in summer??
I can't think of another show I would watch over the summer during airing. I would DVR mostly everything else. But Breaking Bad. I don't want to be the guy who misses it when it first airs.

Bryan Cranston explained that episode on one of his appearances on Adam Carollas podcast. Essentially, episodes like that happen when they've burnt through too much production budget and they have to come up with creative ways to spare expense. Personally I enjoyed that episode and thought it displayed the strenghts of the crew/writers etc to take something relatively mundane and make it interesting.

This show is definitely written by someone who has done meth…..an episode of chasing a fly is only too real to a person who has worked with making meth…suit or no suit…makin meth seeps into your pours and it is like you are using…under the influence of meth, a person can fixate on one irritating thing or absolutely nothing at all…you just never know what to expect….i know…i was a former addict…been clean and sober for almost 10 years now after using heavily for over 15 years……

I do agree that season 3 was a bit of a let down, BUT it was only because season 2 was brilliant beyond anyone's expectation. I mean, every scene in 2 was vital to the intensity of the story unfolding before us; I found myself scratching off the fabric of my couch with every episode. And there were also some far fetched things in 2 as well (Walt having a drink with Jane's dad; Hank never getting suspicious, even after Walt interrupts a stake out; I could go on). But it didn't matter because the show had me hook line and sinker (still does). As for the fly episode, it was perhaps a bit overdone, but it was a very interesting character study. Walt almost confessed to Jesse about his role in Jane's death (a plot point which I predict will return), thus addressing his frail and guilt ridden state of mind. I swear never has there been a show where the balance between high octane action, human tragedy, and humor is so just right. BBAD will go down in history. Well done, AMC.

I hate waiting so long. I thought maybe the show had been cancelled; Some of the best ones are. But to find out that it's AMC causing the delay?!! WTF. A lot of people will forget all about it between now and this Summer. The winter was way too long and good weather will get us all outside, not in front of the TV. If it's not AMC's fault, then who is to blame, so I can curse them out.

A good man gone bad because of cancer, found his only way to not leave his family destitute and desparate after he's gone is to use his chemistry skills to make methamphetamines. A dark comedy series of mis-adventures follow this tragic revelation which has all kind of ups and downs, as this reluctant mafia father of a drug ring rises to power. As the story progresses, it really leads one to wonder if whether or not it was worth it to get involved in the trade, but as far as Walter goes, the answer is, "yes" because he would do anything for his family. The story takes a turn for the trivial after his cancer tumors go into remission and are removed from his body. What will fuel Walter's ambitions as a king pin in Season 4? This is what I want to know, amongst a few other things. It seems the deeper they get in the spider web, the harder it is to get out. After watching this series, I have come to the conclusion that it's a lot of fun to watch idiots.

AMC"s real reason for doing this: they need to fill in the gap left by Mad Men, which won't be airing this summer, due to negotiation disputes between AMC and Weiner.
This is the BEST show in the history of television. My wife and I just started watching it this year when they re ran the series and it's one of the highlights of our week. Even the most seemingly boring scenes are intense as hell thinking that the cartels or the DEA are going to bust in at any moment. I swear that show has put 10 years of stress on my heart from the intensity of this show.
Let's start by saying this is a great show and I cannot wait until July. But really, an award winning show with an award winning actor is concerned about "competion" if they release Season 4 in March? What is really going on behind the scenes here? Is someone holding out for more money? Is one of the stars engaged in a real life drug-rehab, sordid affair, or nefarious criminal enterprise? Part of the fun of this show has been seeing Walt's efforts to get Skylar to buy his hokey stories and suspend reality so that she will not see through his dirty tricks. It appears that the promotors and directors of this series think they can pull the same thing on the viewers, but they have trained us not to buy into this sort of scam.

Discovered this show this week and in three days have completed season one and two. This beats any series I have every watched, even Sopranos. There isn't a bad actor on the show and the cinematography is excellent. AMC really put some time/money into this.
I for one, of at least 10 million viewers, will sustain the wait. I think this is a very well calculated break, and will lead to a series that will have a following like a Charlie Sheen comeback to 2 1/2 Men finale will. TV is about the drama, and this move will only stimulate it to the next level. There will be Blue crystal parties, like people used to have Seinfeld and Friends parties back in the 90's. This break has forced me to watch other AMC series, ie Mad Men, that I hadn't been interested in before, now I'm hooked on that show!!!! Thanks AMC!!!

What can i say, this show has got me hooked. I can only wait and hope for more. I hate the politics, he and the rest of the cast are so good, if they keep winning awards so what they earned them. Show's absolutely amazing, I hope it continues to move forward and gets more popular than it has been in the past, what a great show, honestly. It's rare to find shows that are worth watching on TV anymore, this is one of those shows worth watching, re-run or not.

I love Breaking Bad, just got into it last year with Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD, am waiting for Season 3 to be released so i can catch up and be ready for the start of Season 4 in July. I have to disagree with the people who say it is the best show on TV right now though, that honor goes to Sons of Anarchy, but BB is a very close 2nd. The July start helps to fill in the time until SOA starts in Sept.
They pushed back BB to trick us into liking The Killing which was lame when it was Twin Peaks and when you are waiting for BB, nothing else will do. At least it's coming on in July, we have to wait until 2012 to see MM.
