While it’s true that America is usually swiping shows from Britain to remake as our own, we also produce a lot of great television ourselves that people want to emulate. Naturally, Breaking Bad will forever be thought of as one of the all-time greatest US shows, so I can’t say I’m terribly surprised that it’s being remade. Where?
Yes, that’s right, there’s a Spanish-language remake of Breaking Bad coming to the country. Here’s the cast so far, along with their revamped character names.
Walter White = Walter Blanco (played by Diego Trujillo)
Jesse Pinkman = Jose Miguel Rosas (played by Robert Urbina)
Skyler = Cielo (played by Sandra Reyes)
Hank Schrader = Henry Navarro (played by Julian Arango).
That’s Trujillo as Walter Blanco below, and he’s certainly got the “crazed man in underwear” look down.
I wonder how closely the show will stick to the script of the original? With a masterpiece like Breaking Bad, you don’t want to stray too far, but remakes usually end up changing certain elements. And I wonder how the drug culture of Colombia will change the overall storyline.
But yes, Walt will still be making meth, however, he’ll be making it in an old school bus. Awesome.
