FEARnet Picks Up Series From Makers of Hatchet, Knights of Badassdom

FEARnet has become the latest cable network to try its hand at original scripted content, as they’ve picked up a pilot from indie filmmakers Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom).

According to Deadline, the show, titled Holliston and described as “Wayne’s World meets Saw“, will be a half hour buddy comedy that stars both Green and Lynch as aspiring filmmakers working at a local cable access station. Said to be a whole lot of wrong wrapped in pop culture references and industry jokes, the boundary pushing Holliston will also star Laura Ortiz and Corri English and will air alongside FEARnet’s acquired shows Psychoville and Todd & the Book of Pure Evil. No premiere date has been set, however.

Green’s next feature set for release is Chillerama, a horror-comedy anthology mash-up of different genres and styles, which will be released in late 2011. Lynch’s next feature is Knights of Badassdom, which made a big splash at Comic-Con recently. In Knights, a group of live action roleplayers summon a demon and have to find a way to send it back to the underworld from whence it came.

What do you think about the idea for Holliston? Do you think a “hori-com” can work on TV? How have you enjoyed the recent surge in horror-related TV?
