I still say the producers/writers are sending us mixed signals. Sometimes (like when he battles Doomsday), it feels like a proper Superman story. But then other times, like with the training Jor-El is putting him through, they very blatantly say that he is not yet who he is supposed to become -- which is reinforced by interviews the producers give.

Scott,

I would say the decision has been made this is most certainly altered take on the previous incarnations of Superman. In early Action Comic showings of Superman which is source material they called on from day one and for so many seasons young Clark and young Lex were in fact friends. Only his parents and Jor-El's teachings in the crystals sent along with him from Krypton were his guideposts on becoming the beacon of light to humanity. This still is the story of him growing up to be Superman by finally balancing his Kryptonian heritage understanding he is not the Naaman from the Kawatchee caves he was led to believe, a conqurer of the Earth, rather its people's greatest protector. The Black suit shouldn't feel wrong if you remember the Last Son of Krypton stories which ran after Doomsday put our hero in an early grave, Kal-El returned in nothing but black and the silver shield upon his chest until once an for all they determined who amonst the other Supermen was the real "Red Blue" boyscout. Finally why shouldn't Clark be suspicious of Chloe he just recently found out in Idol the episode you loved so much she has been tapping his phone conversations with Lois, she's had tracking becons on Oliver...invasion of personal space much!!! Evidently she is also still a super computer sleuth even without Braniac rattling around in her head so she is Big Brother wanting to control all the information and Who gets to know What when. Sure they have their ups and Downs but it is one season away from matching Stargate SG1 for the longest running Sci Fi program on T.V. history, quite the accomplishment!
