CMT couldn't quite break through with their first scripted show, as the music network has officially canceled sitcom Working Class, according to Deadline. The show is reportedly being shopped to other networks now, most notably TV Land, so it might not be the end of Carli's venture to the suburbs.
Working Class stars Melissa Peterman as a woman who moves her kids to the suburbs to try and give them a better life than she had (but finds out that adjusting to suburban life is easier said than done). She has to deal with her cranky neighbor Hank (Ed Asner) and manage life as a single mom of three. The series also starred Patrick Fabian and Steve Kazee respectively.
Peterman is best known for her six year stint on Reba as Barbra Jean, the woman who has an affair with Reba's husband Brock as their marriage is ending and ends up marrying him a short time later (coincidentally, Reba McEntire was one of the show's guest stars, playing her ex-husband's new wife). She's been the host of the CMT's version of former NBC gameshow The Singing Bee since 2009 and signed a record contract last year in hopes of releasing a stand-up comedy album.
Did you catch any of Working Class? Do you think it would fit in with TV Land's growing scripted line-up? If the show ends up coming back, should Ed Asner come back to TV? Should CMT continue pursuing scripted shows or should they simply focus on music?
I hope they bring it back on A network, I like it. Plus it would really suck if they left it the way they left it!
