Caprica 1.0 to Hit DVD on Tuesday

When Battlestar Galactica ended its five-year run last year, it was both the best and worst thing to happen to television. It was the best because it meant that the series could (arguably) end on a creative high note, leaving it in our memories as one of the smartest sci-fi shows to air on television ever. The bad? It meant no moreĀ Battlestar Galactica.

Thankfully, there was a solution to that quandary, thanks to Caprica, the prequel to Battlestar. Of course, it's not the same beast that Battlestar was, but it's at least a dose from the same universe. While Battlestar was incredibly dark and gritty, Caprica is bright and cheerful, despite dealing with some pretty heavy themes (one of the main characters is killed in a terrorist attack in the first episode).

So it's no surprise that the series was a pretty big hit for SyFy. We'll be getting more of the show's first season when it resumes tomorrow night (after a six month break), but tomorrow also means that you'll be able to check the first half of the season on DVD.

SyFy seems to have a thing for putting out half-seasons on DVD, and Caprica is no exception. Season 1.0 hits shelves on Tuesday, October 5, and features the first nine episodes of the season on four discs. It's not available on Blu-ray, strangely enough, but the $31.99 set is definitely a must-have for any fan -- and anyone simply looking to catch up on the series before it resumes tomorrow night.

You can order Caprica Season 1.0 through Amazon.
