Caprica: The Fight Isn't Over For Some Fans...

As one of the resident Caprica fans here, it was very odd not beating out the latest recap for the show last night. It's been a week after the show's cancellation and the wounds are still fresh for fans of the Battlestar Galactica prequel. However, one fan is not going down without a fight and is willing to sling apples to get the show back on the air.

CraveOnline reports that Caprica fan Rosemary Medrano is heading the "Save Caprica" campaign, which was launched a week ago today on her website of the same name. In tradition of most TV show renewal campaigns where fans send in significant items from a show in trouble (Roswell - Tabasco Sauce, Jericho - Peanuts, Moonlight - Blood Drive), the objects in this case are apples, which signifies Caprica's biblical allegory of the fall of man at the hands of Eve where the apple represented the knowledge of good and evil. Ms. Medrano plans on sending boxes of apples to Mark Stern and Steve Burke, executives of the SyFy network.

Medrano attributes lack of promotion, last minute announcement on Caprica's return, and just a complete mismanagement of the Caprica property. Medrano shares the same sentiments many fans have behind the show's failure, mainly the Tuesday night time slot being the main deal killer. Stargate Universe, Caprica's old lead in show, is also suffering in the ratings from the move to Tuesdays. Both shows did moderately well on Friday nights where competition really wasn't that rough as Tuesdays, but with the experiment being a failure, you would think they would move both shows back to Friday nights. Sadly, that wasn't the case for Caprica, but hopefully it can be an idea for Stargate Universe in the future.

For those of you who want to become a Soldier in the fight to save Caprica, the campaign plans on sending a shipment of apples to SyFy on November 15th, with the deadline for participating being November 9th. A $5 donation would equal 7 apples into the overall shipment.

Campaigns like this are a bit pointless, Syfy are almost certainly not going to reverse their decision. If the fans were that concerned, as they should have been, they should have pre-empted the cancellation and started an awareness campaign as the SGU fans have done. Whether it proves to be successful remains to be seen however…
