Okay, so unless you're a Lost fan, you probably didn't get his analogy. So let me translate it for you: get ready for a huge (and I really mean huge) twist in the last episode of season 3 of the ABC hit show Castle. EW's Sandra Gonzalez has just posted a long interview with the show's creator, Andrew Marlowe, about the last three episodes of the season and I am going to be really honest here: I am preparing myself for something really crazy.
We have known for a few months now that the finale will revisit Beckett's mom's case and Marlowe shed some light on what exactly is going to go down during the last hour of season 3. He explains that Beckett has been keeping her promise and visiting Lockwood in prison every week to try and get some information out of him, but he obviously won't crack.
"She gets to the prison this time, and there’s been a huge development. There’s an unfortunate break in the case that gives her an investigative avenue. So she pursues that, but the problem is that in pursuing that, she’s putting herself in danger. So it’s up to the people around her to protect her, and Capt. Montgomery, who has been very protective over her (...) really appeals to Castle to make sure she doesn’t do something super foolish, basically run into traffic and get herself killed. When you have all these people out there with these hidden agendas, so that brings the Castle/Beckett relationship to an interesting place of conflict", he teases.
He also says that the episode before the finale, entitled "Pretty Dead", will be a sort of calm before the storm, so we can expect a really light and fun episode with that one. Because when we get to "Knockout" things will get really intense. Beckett will be on the verge of losing control altogether. Think how intense things were in "Sucker Punch" and "Knockdown". "Knockout" will be a lot more darker than those two. The episode is penned by Will Beal, which we know is a suberb writer when it comes to exploring Beckett's mind and internal conflicts regarding her mother's murder.
According to Marlowe there will be huge twists - yes, as in plural - and they are going to be mind blowing, hence the "moving the island" Lost reference.
I admit I am half super excited and half dreading the episode. How about you? Are you ready for this major game changer?
Ahhhh!! I completely agree, i'm half-super excited, half-anxiously dreading! Either way, I can't wait! Whoo, plus so eager to watch tonight's episode! This show has got me bad XD
Andrew Marlowe is amazingly great and mean at these teaser interviews.
It's got to happen. I think the producers and writers know that the "will they won't they" arc can't play out for another season. You need something that puts that pot on simmer but gives the fans a new emotional toy to chew on for a while. In order to accommodate that Beckett needs to go to a darker place. It will be a real test of "Always" for Castle to walk her back from that. I just hope that they took to heart the continuity lecture they were given a few weeks ago. You can't change the game and go back to the way things were two episodes later. That being said, I am glad Castle (the show) is maturing a little, but I hope it doesn't lose its light touch.
I don't know but I'm chewing on this thought already for quite some time now and need to get it out there:
What if Kate's dad seems (and I'm saying SEEMS) to be involved in her mom's murder? What if at the end of the episode there are some hints in that direction – I think that this could be a real game changer and it would certainly leave me gaping at the TV going "WHAT?!!!" Not that I would seriously believe it but what if they are gonna find some information pointing in that direction – even if he would not have caused her mom's murder intentionally, but what if he knew something about who could it have been and kept quiet out of guilt because he was somehow mixed up in the circumstances that led to her murder? This could also be an explanation for him becoming an alcoholic…
Now that would certainly bring Kate's world crumbling down. They could resolve this (for the better I hope) in the season 4 premiere or even some eps later but it would make a nice cliffhanger. Of course there's always the possibilty that Montgomery is somehow involved (even if he only had some crucial information which he was holding back) or the mayor who seems to be a friend of Castle's; but since I read somewhere it is someone close to Beckett my money is somehow on her father or Montgomery, even if I really can't imagine that this would be true! And I don't want it to be true!
Also with all the hints on an obstacle coming up in regards to the relationship between Castle and Beckett, it seems likely that this has something to do with what they will find out about her mom's case because this time it won't be some distracting other love interest (Josh or Gina). Another theory of mine is that they will find out that the one responsible for her mom's murder is somehow connected with Castle (obstacle!).
Oh well, sorry for rambling on, I'm sure I'm probably far off-base on this one with my wild theories but they just wouldn't leave me alone! Sorry again! ;)
I have been thinking also that perhaps in some way, intentional or not, Montgomery knew something crucial. Probably not, but who knows? I did not watch LOST so I'm not sure what moving the island really refers to. I think its fun to speculate. Evidence of how good the show is. Don't think Castle could have anything to do with it, but we shall see.
I don't think Castle has something to do with it, not at all! But maybe he is friends with someone who has without Castle knowing about it. It could be that Kate is taken aback by finding out and doubts her relationship with him. But it doesn't seem very likely. All the other crazy scenarios make more sense! ;)
Outstanding Caskett ! This would definitely be a major twist. I think another red herring is the assumption that Montgomery will be the one who dies. What if it's Lanie ? This would devestate Beckett and Esposito. This could create the "bump" in the Bromance for next season with Esposito dealing with her death. Also either Beckett and/or Castle could be responsible for her death which would cause major friction in the precinct (game-changer).
Yes, I was actually thinking the same – it doesn't necessarily have to be Montgomery who dies, I was also thinking maybe Lanie. But it IS true that they have casted actors who will be playing several family members of Montgomery – maybe for a funeral? But what if there isn't a funeral and Montgomery/Lanie dies at the very end of the ep? Then the family members could be a hint that maybe Montgomery/family IS somehow mixed up in Johanna Beckett's murder…
Good thinking on the "bump" that Lanie's death could create between Ryan and Esposito and also, even better, your guess that Beckett/Castle could be somehow responsible for her or Montgomery's death. Though if so, I think it would be Castle because this could create another obstacle for the couple-to-be! ;) Just imagine they admit to each other that there is SOMETHING between them worth exploring further and then Castle causes accidentally the death of Montgomery or Lanie (someone close to Beckett) because he didn't stay in the car like Beckett told him! I can certainly imagine something like this WILL set them both at odds!!!
Oh well, I guess, we will find out sooner or later! ;)
So, I think it's official: it's not Lanie who dies. Tamala Jones did an Interview with Wetpaint and confirmed that she will be appear more often next season, her storyline will be more flashed out…
Good! Because I love Lanie, and without her Beckett would never get a good shove in the right direction.
But after all this hype, I hope it is Montgomery, since I don't think I could lose another main cast member (sorry!).
