Castle is, in theory, a crime procedural. Every week we get a different case and that particular investigation – with the exception of Beckett’s mom’s murder and the 3XK serial killer – is wrapped up by the end of the episode.
However, that is not what Castle is all about. Each case serves as a catalyst for the characters to grow and develop and that is what really drives the show. The interactions between characters, how they relate to each other and how those relationships develop over time, is really the foundation of any drama and it is no different with Castle.
The relationship between Castle and Beckett has been the driving force of the show since the very first episode and it has been discussed exhaustingly over the past three seasons whether they should get together or not. When we were in season 1, it was too soon. In season 2, they were starting to get to know each other. In season 3, they were pretty much best friends and trusted each other completely.
So the question here is what is the next step for season 4? Because logically they should get their act together and give in to their feelings already, right?
In a perfect world, yes. But there is the argument that there is still so much they need to learn about each other before jumping into a relationship and that they should do that while they are still friends, so it won’t ruin what they already have. I have to say that I agree with this partially. Don’t get me wrong. I want them to get together as much as any shipper out there. It’s frustrating to see them dance around each other for three entire seasons and get nothing out of it.
But they are both so layered and they hide behind so many masks that it is difficult to know who they really are underneath all that. In the name of not throwing a beautiful friendship away, I agree that they should discuss a few things first and mostly work on their communication issues because they really lack in that department.
That said, I can also argue that they can learn about each other and whatever baggage they both have while they are in a relationship. I honestly don’t believe in this so called “Moonlighting curse” and I think that is just an excuse to keep them apart longer. When it comes down to it, it all depends on how the writers will handle the relationship and how they will incorporate it into the show. Of course there have been major failures (House and Cuddy, anyone? Sorry, House fans!), but there have been some really great stories as well (Chuck and Sarah, from Chuck).
Bottom line is I think season 4 is the make it or break it season. There needs to be some serious movement forward in the Castle/Beckett front, even if by the end of the season they break up or fight. Or maybe they get together, break up and get back together by the end of the season. I really have no preference, as long as something happens. As long as they admit (for real) that they have feelings for each other. Castle told her he loves her, that can’t be ignored. Granted, she was busy bleeding out, but it is out there now and I really hope this is addressed sooner rather than later.
Let’s not have a repeat of the “let’s ignore every major event until the season finale” thing that we had for season 3.
So what do you think? Is season 4 too soon for Castle and Beckett to get together or should they just go for it already?
I personally would love to see them get together as soon as possible in season 4, but i`m quite certain that wont happen. After reading Andrew Marlowe`s interview after the season finale, it seems very likely that season 4 will be yet another frustrating season for Caskett-shippers. I`m guessing the storyline will be this: Beckett got shot in the chest, close to the heart. She falls in to a coma. Josh who is a heart surgeon, operates on her and saves her life. When she wakes up from the coma, she`ll suffer from amnesia and won`t remember anything from the funeral. She`ll find out that Josh saved her life, and this will bring them closer together. Just my guess though. Hoping i`m way off base here :)

I agree completely. It's time for a little less subtext and a little more conversation. The mantra that Beckett "plays things close to the vest" is not going to fly (for this fan anyway). 4 seasons in we should know more about Kate Beckett, the co lead of the show mind you!
We learned more about Ashley's pet rat than we did about Beckett this season …. unexceptionable!
To answer the question: No it's not to soon. "Together" doesn't mean sex though. An admission of feelings and a conversation. I'll take just one at this point.

Absolutely agree. I think that at least by the middle of the season they should decide to give it a shot- even if that just means dating (and even if everything does fall apart at some point). It's put up or shut up time :)
I'm for Beckett's character staying consistant in season 4 even if they don't get together. If the storyline stays true the each of the characters I'll continue to watch. However I must say the season finale left me thinking if they don't move Beckett towards Castle…. I hope he finds another women…. sad to say. Soon he'll begin to look like a sap. I would love to know why Beckett keeps kicking Castle to the curb, she can handle a relationship with Josh so why is she fighting her feeling for Castle?
Season 1 was the beginning, season 2 yeah they're just getting to know each other. Season 3, I agree they were like best friends. But from the season finale, I can tell that season 4 has to be much more of the climax here. Season 3 finale was incredible. It set the bar high for season 4. Castle and Beckett should start admitting their feelings somewhere in the middle. Let's not forget about Josh and the new female captain. My guess, Josh would be the one saving Beckett's life, and she would love him. The new captain, I don't think she likes having Castle around. That female captain might be rather annoying if she tries get Castle away, but you know what? So many theories of what Castle season 4 is going to be like but in the end, its not our choice. We just have to trust the writers that season 4 is going to be outstanding.
I think they shouldn't rush the relationship, but they should still kiss again to see if the chemistry is still there… Thats very important in a friendship / relationship,and its very romantic…. the chemistry between two people when they kiss tells all,infact that's how they made song up called kiss and tell the kiss tells all,and shows all.

I think any progress on the relationship front will take a big step backwards if Beckett finds out Castle has the info Montgomery sent him on Beckett's mother's murder and he keeps if from her. Obviously that's for her own protection but she won't see it that way.
Andrew Marlowe mentioned in an interview that Kate heard Castle say, at that time, that he loves her. Meaning after all the trauma she'll have forgetton about it afterwards.
I think we soud let the writer decide.I for one will like to see them kiss again but being interrupted at list 3 times. I'm for romantic suspense,and I hope they don't do what they did with Bones.were they are holding each other in bed and the next scene they are at work and telling there best friend that they did it. I think that when the time cames the love scene should be slow,erotic,and make me blush ,I can wait
They have to express their feelings for each other to each other this season or else come to a platonic friendship since neither of them seem to have difficulty dating and/or sleeping with other people and it's beginning to stretch the limits of the plausible. Nobody is so complicated or broken to take more than 3 years to either take the leap or get out of town.

that's not 100% right. kate was really jealous when natalie rhodes (nikki heat-role) kissed him in the elevator. and she was jealous in first episode, third season, because she asked if he had slept with the dead woman and that she can't know how many women he had in the time he wasn't with her…
Also love the fact that they`re bringing in a female captain. It is rumored that she will be a woman of colour, in her early 40`s, a real hardass but with a flirtasious side to her. Wont be at all surprised if she starts to flirt with Rick, which will hopefully make Kate very jalous. Would love to see Kate fighting for Rick`s attention next season, instead of the other way around.

You know, I would love somebody to printout and give Andrew Marlowe during Castle panel at the upcoming Comic Con in San Diego a copy of Stana's interview for Hungarian website. They should discuss it in deep, 'cause Stana obviously wants Castle and Beckett to get together ASAP and develop them from there. And I wholeheartedly agree with her.

Marlowe also said in a post-finale interview that Josh will still be in the picture and that he thinks the fans will not be happy until mid-season. So I'm guessing Beckett breaks up with Josh in mid-season and is single until late season, or the season finale, when she finally decides to give it a go with Castle only to find the files he was keeping from her. Something like that.
I want them to get together too, but based on the fight they had in the finale and Castle's pointing out how Kate is afraid of a "real relationship" I don't think they should do it right away this season. Beckett will need time to deal with whatever she is afraid of AND to figure out why Castle's previous marriages failed. Not that it's a lot of her business, but if she discovers that the failures weren't his fault, hopefully it will encourage her.

Almoust every show, that is like this, ends up when two leads get together. And almoust everybody thinks if they get together, that show has to end. I think opposite. I think the real challenge for the writters is to keep show interesting with them together.
I don't think it is too soon. At season 4 I expect them to admitt their feelings to one another, at least. If not, I'm affraid that writters will take it too long, so some of the fans could lose interest. The point is, something should happen betwein Castle and Beckett in season 4.
Ithink they had all the time they need … and if they need more time to find the right way to eachother, they were allowed to get this time :)
I would love to see them as soon as possible together, but maybe that would destroy a part of Castle if they get closer to eachother on the beginning of season 4, maybe they couldn´t work with eachother if they were in a relationship, and that would make all the Castlefans very very unhappy :)
I hope season four (at the very least) is a getting to know you season. I really want to know more about both of them and what they did before they met and really get inside of them better.
I agree, the next step is some sort of commitment to one another. The problem, they've been doing this dance for three years; it's foreplay,for all intents and purposes. The next step is consummation, its' kind of a corner AWM & Co have gotten themselves into. It could work, but it would have to be explosive after three years. Then the Dynamic Duo would have to figure out what happens next. The consequenses could be hilarious, awkward, but after three years never confusing. Stana thinks a Mr. & Mrs. will work,it has on the big screen think the Thin Man.
The challenge is to AWM & Co, because I think the Moonlighting curse is in the back of their minds. It seems like a false fear because these writers produce such high quality material.
One other thing. Once they are in a commited relationship, think how much more intense the storylines would become once one or the other is in danger.
I'd just like to see more conversation between Kate and Rick. You know, sitting at home on the sofa with a glass of wine, asking questions about each other, and getting cosy and comfortable. Oh, and a hug or two wouldn't hurt either.
Perhaps we could also see more Kate/Lanie and or Lanie/Rick talks as another way to flesh out their characters and feelings more. Just sayin'…
Season 4 is not at all too soon for Castle and Beckett to head for a romantic relationship with each other. At the least, the events of Season 3 have made it clear that outside romantic relationships for these two are pretty meaningless at this point; for all of the baggage and issues they have between them (especially with what happened in the finale), Castle and Beckett are pretty wrapped up in each other. So I hope Josh is sent on his way quickly in Season 4, and the season centers around the aftermath of the shooting, the fallout of the death of Montgomery, the developments in the case of Beckett's mom, and further exploration of the characters and their histories.
There are a lot of interesting complications for the show to mine, including Beckett's physical and emotional recovery, Beckett coming to terms with her feelings for Castle (and his for her) and hopefully being willing to do something about it, the challenges of a new precinct dynamic, the concerns of Alexis and Martha for Castle's safety, and Castle's guilt about his role in case of Beckett's mom. All of these issues will provide fascinating complications for a developing relationship between Castle and Beckett (in addition to their personality differences), but I think it's time to move in that direction in order to stay out of brother/sister or friend territory and keep their dynamic growing and changing. I'm eager for some additional focus on their physical attraction, tension, and flirting in Season 4 as well, since the SOs in the past 29 episodes have limited that fun, sexy aspect to their relationship. The writers and actors on this show have the talent to make Castle and Beckett an interesting, complicated couple at some point in the coming season. And although I'm not a fan of a break-up/reunite scenario for them as a couple, Castle and Beckett in a relationship does not have to spell perfect happiness; it would be fun and interesting to watch them navigate the complications together.

I agree Josh needs to be dealt with ASAP. I think that having him in her life has caused alot of the continuity problems in season 3. It really doesn't make since to have him around any longer (as a block) I believe his role has been overplayed. And there are so many other creative ways to move B & C forward (slowly). Whatever way they choose, I'm hoping they stay consistant and keep continuity going forward.
It definitely is make or break time with this so called relationship. If this new female captain is put to flirt with Castle, this show is doomed. The Kate and Rick relationship HAS to move forward or you will lose the long time fan that grew this show.
LINDA: if the captain being a flirt is enough to ruin it for you, get ready for a rough ride. My understanding is Sept. thru Dec.will be really be challenging for most fans unless you really dig deep into the subtext.
Alis, Castle told Kate he loved her at that moment precisely because she had been shot. He didn't want her to die not knowing how he felt about her. Critical situation you would say how you felt in case you didn't get another chance.
To quote someone who i think hit the nail on the head so to speak: Rick/Kate together as a couple won`t happen until Rick stops following Kate, and trust her to do her job as safely as possible. Makes complete & absolute sense to me.
Yes, it should happen between these two, because I want to see them together in couple-mode. If Chuck can still be awesome with their two leads in a relationship, Castle can do it as well. It's all about the writing. And Castle has some fine writers. And once they bribe Will Beall to come back part time, the show will be beyond awesome. Here's to seeing Caskett away from the precinct.
This show is driven by the Beckett and Castle relationship. They need to be in a heavy relationship with each other by mid-season 4 or the relationship will be meaningless before the May sweeps. At that point the show will start to unravel and the ratings will drop.
I reallllly hope that Beckett wakes up in the hospital to see Castle and Josh fighting over who "loves" her more. When Beckett sees how much they both love her shes oobviously going to fall for the guy who she can get the most out of the realationship with or just dump Josh and slowly, but stedily fall for Castle and by the end of the season they're together. Just what I hope will happen fingers crossed.

I don't believe in the moonlighting curse either. Granted it can be hard keeping a couple together but there are other TV couples that have made it. If the writers try to put too many weird conflicts in their relationship then yes, they probably won't last. The thing with this show is we want Castle and Beckett together so they don't have to work at convincing the fans. I just hope they handle it the right way.
looks like castle and josh might have it out early in season 4. I see Josh(Victor Webster) has a guest celebrity role Wed. July 20th on USA channel at 10pm on Necessary Roughness. If he finds more work somewere else, for sure Andrew Marlowe will write his charactor out of Becketts life! Beckett isnt 100% sure about Castle yet . We have a long wait before our duo gets together. cant wait till septebber to solve the 3xk mystery. love the show
I love where their relationship is going and as much of a shipper as i am, I dont want them to get together in the 4th season because they still have a lot to learn about each other first and emotions the writers have to work around that they just cant forget about. For me, as long as their relationship keeps escalating, Im very happy. Anyone agree?
