Castle Season 4 Spoiler: Meet Beckett's Shrink

Getting shot in the chest by a professional killer can be very traumatizing. Discovering that your mentor betrayed you, watching him die to save your life and getting shot by a professional killer during aforementioned mentor’s funeral is probably going to be more than a little traumatizing for Detective Kate Beckett in the upcoming fourth season of Castle.

It is a given that she will be dealing with some pretty heavy issues – on top of the trauma of her mother’s unsolved murder – and for that, she is going to need some serious therapy. Poor girl, she just can’t catch a break, can she? Beckett will be ordered to see a psychiatrist and Star Trek’s alum Michael Dorn is set to guest star in the recurring role of her shrink.

Lt. Commander Worf will appear for the first time in the season 4 premiere “Rise” and, according to executive producer Laurie Zaks, her appointments with Worf will serve as enlightenment to some previous issues, including her relationship with Castle.

"It's going to dredge up a whole bunch of stuff," Zaks explains. "Her conversations will enlighten how the relationship will move forward to whatever that next level is. I think Beckett knows that in order to move on with her life she is going to have either let go or deal with how her mother died”.

Also, there is a possibility of seeing more of Beckett’s life this season. Stana Katic told TV Guide that they have talked about bringing in a close friend of Beckett’s.

"We see Castle in the loft, and he's very vulnerable to his family members. So, we see a lot of the inter-workings of his end of the love story," She says. "I don't think we really know what's going on in Beckett's world, so it's time to kind of to open that up. ... [We've] talked a bit about potentially bringing in a friend or some kind of intimate character that can open up the other sides of her too."

Personally, I am all for exploring Beckett’s world. It’s about time we learn more about who she is besides Detective Beckett, don’t you think?

Good Beckett is talking to a professional, out of every other character on canvas – she needs it the most.

Disappointed that they may bring in a friend for Beckett though. Why? We already have Lanie! She's SUPPOSED to be Beckett's friend. Why bring in a new character that the audience doesn't know when we have an already established character in Lanie! Give Tamala more screen time, she's a gem – use her!

Lanie would be great, but at this point in time anybody KB could open up to and use as a sounding board for her personal issues, someone she could spill her guts out to is like two seasons overdue. And I for one hope they do that often this coming season.

We will at long last see the other side of the story.

I am really looking forward to season 4 and the unveiling of more layers of the Beckett "onion". Giving Beckett a couple of "sounding boards" has been long overdue. She is a strong, fascinating female character to watch.

  4. Kath says:

We've really been needing to see Beckett's side of the story. We see a lot of Castle's in his conversations with Martha, Alexis and even Esposito and Ryan but we know very little of what Beckett's thinking these days wrt Castle, Josh, and her mother's case. I'd like to see Beckett and Lanie go out for drinks like Nikki Heat does with her coroner friend but I'll take whatever insight into Beckett I can get.

TV has a way of showing the therapist profession badly — House's psychiatrist was there to push Huddy, Bone's Gordon Gordon crossed boundaries and Sweets has his own agent, and the one on NCIS last season was unethical and incompetent — but I think Castle will do a better job.

Yay for Michael Dorn as the psychiatrist. That will be two DS9 aluma on the show.

i think he will be a good psychiatrist on a side note… the psychiatrist on ncis was there more for a memorial for kate rather than help for the team
