Nathan Fillion as Nate Drake in Uncharted Movie?

Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle) is making it known that he down with fan demands that he play the part of Nate Drake in the upcoming film adaptation of Naughty Dog's successful game franchise Uncharted - but some other news on the project may make him want to reconsider. Word broke earlier that infamous hothead director David O. Russell has been tapped to direct the adaptation.  Russell is best known for the violent clashes with cast on the set of his last film, I heart Huckabees - and by last, I mean produced over six-years ago.  Russell has since abandoned a few projects, and has now been handed the reins to Uncharted.  No word on whether he has participated in any anger management classes.

For his part, Fillion is a charismatic pro who could probably pragmatically navigate the ill tempered director; if nothing else, Fillion is a dead ringer for Nate Drake, although perhaps a few years older.  In terms of character, though, Fillion has the market cornered when it comes to playing dashing smart ass fortune hunters - when it comes to the idea of casting Fillion as Drake, I'm not sure there is a strong enough word beyond 'perfect' to describe the prospect.

So how does Fillion plan to nail this plumb role?  In the social-verse, of course.  It was the signing of Russell that set the news-wire ablaze with the Uncharted property, but Fillion fans quickly filled up every comment form they could grab to plea for his casting in the iconic title role.  Fillion did his part by tweeting:

If ever there was a Twitter campaign, let this be it. Rise, ye Browncoats. Rise, ye Castillions. RISE! http://j.mp/aEGe79

Could it work?  Why not.

A bit of an oversight that you failed to mention that David O. Russell has a new film with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale due out in December, so this would not be his first film post Huckabees. It on the strength of his new film that he even was hired.

I hope David O.Russell has cleaned up his act. Some of the stories I have read of his lack of professionalism and disrespect (with his raging and belittling of cast and crew) made me sick. You can't have rubbish like that occuring on a film set, especially a fun action movie like Uncharted.

We want Nathan Fillion to be cast as Nathan Drake!

Yes! NATHAN FILLION is the BEST choice to play Nathan Drake! He's got action hero written all over him, with the biceps to prove it. He's extremely bright, clever, funny, sexy, young, hot, and devilishly handsome. And he wants this role as much as we want it for him!

It's his turn to be the next powerful leading man on the big screen. He's an up-and-coming A-List movie star with moxie and heat and he's a-comin' to take over feature films! I feel it! Grab him while you can for the Uncharted franchise. Because he'll also make the best Indiana Jones when they re-boot those movies!!

in his campaign to be Nathan Drake, we Browncoats and Castillions firmly support our Captain Nathan Fillion!

I was actually thinking they should give it to Jean-Claude Van Damme or Tobey Maguire.

    Wait.. no… Will Smith!!

Honestly though… You know who will probably end up getting it, Ryan Reynolds. Not saying he should but man that guy is on a roll lately.

No. He's past his prime for this role. While I do like Fillion a lot (he has the charm and comedic flair to play Nathan- which is important) he doesn't have the youth (i.e Drake is in his late 20's in Drakes Fortune) studly-ness, and star-power to carry a blockbuster film of this magnitude. Think about it.

Deep apologies to Nathan Fillion- I loved him in Firefly, Castle and Dr.Horribles Sing-a-long blog, but I think he needs to let some young brilliant unknown take this role.

Nathan Fillion must be cast as Nathan Drake. End transmission.

I honestly can't think of anyone that's more perfect for the role. Watch him as Rick Castle or Captain Mal and then try and NOT imagine him in the role of Nathan Drake. With the right cast surrounding him, this movie wouldn't just be successful, it would be summer blockbuster successful. Make it happen Hollywood!

I remember playing Drakes Fortune for the first time and thinking to myself, "No way, how come nobody told me Nathan Fillion worked on this game?!". IMDb proved to me otherwise but still, the resemblance is BAFFLING! All the more reason that Nathan Fillion should play Nathan Drake in the Drakes Fortune movie!

Nathan Fillion should be Nathan Drake. If it needs to be explained to you and you're the one calling the shots… Well maybe you shouldn't be making those important decisions. It's a no brainer. Nathan Drake is 1 part Indy 1 part solo. That equals an awesome character that can only be played by Fillion. Watch Firefly watch Drive, watch Castle: Drake meet Fillion, Fillion meet Drake hey you guys have the same name… Huh.

Nathan Fillion, the Gold Seal choice for Nathan Drake!

Nathan Fillion is the ideal candidate for Uncharted. All one has to do is watch Castle and Firefly, and compare those characters to Drake. His sarcasm is dead on in his shows, making Fillion soar above the rest of the possible people up for casting. And we don't even have to go into the physical resemblance between Drake and and Fillion to see the obvious similarities.

Furthermore, there have been many cases of video games made into movies where the acting was mediocre at best, which ultimately ruined the movie. There is no doubt that the action and special effects have been there faithfully with these types of movies, but, like was stated before, "acting" has always been known to lack. However, I can't tell you how many times I have watched Castle (every episode, man I love that show) and Firefly and said OUTLOUD, "Nathan, man, you MAKE this show what it is." I laughed histerically at his witty remarks (Wild schemes of who the killer could be in Castle: killer from a time machine, governement conspiracies), and marveled at his ability to hold authority and power in a character so well in Firefly. That's who Drake is! He is funny and quick to joke, but will never back down from anything and can hold his own in any fight. Basically, Nathan Fillion has been playing Nathan Drake most of his acting career…. just spanned over multiple roles :-)

As was stated by Kcat10, we Browncoats and Castillions firmly support our Captain Nathan Fillion!
