Tonight’s episode of FlashForward was focused primarily on Bryce.  We learn that he has terminal cancer, but he's convinced that he has something to live for in the mysterious woman he saw in his vision.  In fact, he travels to Japan to try to track her down, but  returns home dejected.  In conjunction with Bryce's trip, we actually learn more about the woman, Keiko, who is a mechanical engineer at a Tokyo robotics firm, but dreams of being a guitar player.  She too saw Bryce in her flash forward and believes he's out there for her.

In LA, the FBI's attempts to learn more about Suspect Zero and his ring don't uncover much.  But it leads them to learn more about the call Demetri received from the woman who told him about his murder – including the fact that the call was made from Hong Kong.

Mark, meanwhile, tries to discover whether Aaron or Stan is sending Olivia texts about him drinking in his flash forward, but just manages to causes rifts with them both.  Aaron's going through his own problems – dealing with his daughter Tracy, who has become an alcoholic under the pressure of the last two years she's spent in hiding.

We've been able to find out the episode titles for the next few episodes of the series. After this week's episode "Believe," we'll be watching the strangely titled "A561984," the tenth episode of the season. We're not quite sure of the meaning behind that one, but it looks like a date, in a way (May 6, 1984?).

The eleventh episode of the season will be titled "Buddha in the Ruins," and episode twelve will be titled "Kairos." After a bit of searching (okay, we just Wikipediad the term) we found out that a Kairos was:

Kairos (??????) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time in between, a moment of undetermined period of time in which something special happens. What the special something is depends on who is using the word. While chronos is quantitative, kairos has a qualitative nature.

Then we'll hit episode thirteen, "Better Angels." While we're not sure if there's any  connection between the two, Better Angels is also the title of a 1999 science fiction novel by Howard V. Hendrix. What does that title mean? Well, according to Wikipedia:

"Better angels" is a phrase used by agents of organization Tetragrammatron to described what they hope to make humanity into. Tetragrammatron is concerned with ensuring humanity's survival by creating a machine/human transcendences, turning humans into "better angels".

These titles are very interesting, and we can't wait to see how they relate to their episodes.

In this week's episode, "The Gift," Agent Al Gough committed suicide in order to prevent his flashforward from coming true. While this event effectively ended his character, it also opened up a variety of possibilities for the other characters who hoped to escape the inevitability of their flashforwards. However, it also opens a myriad of questions — Is death the only escape? How much do these changes affect the future they saw?

Lee Thompson Young, who played Gough, spoke to Zap2It about his thoughts on the character's death, and what it meant for the future of the show.

"He basically changes the entire world because he's the first person to defy Fate," Young said in the interview, which can be read in full here. "He found a way to change the game. It's an awesome role to play."

Speaking of the role, Young revealed that he hadn't known his character's full arc until after the pilot. "I don't think the writers had really fleshed everything out at that point," he said. "But when the show got picked up, David Goyer brought me into the office…he actually asked me if I was okay with it. I was like, yeah, man, I just want to be on the show."

While there was some disappointment from Young about it, he says he is grateful to have played the role. "I think [Agent Al Gough] is a special character in the "FlashForward" world, so it's kind of an honor to play that role," Young said.

Gough's character is loosely based on the character of Dimitrios Procopides from the novel Flashforward. In the novel Dimitrios, having seen a future in which he was living an unfulfilled life, kills himself in order to be spared from it, proving that the future can be changed and providing hope to his brother Theo, who, like the show's Demetri Noh, did not have a flashforward, leading him to believe that he was dead in the future (something he was able to change).

After this week's bombshell of an episode, FlashForward returns with an episode that seems to be just as much of a thrill ride. The series continues moving forward at a breakneck pace, revealing new answers to questions posed by the flashforwards of both Mark and Aaron.

The episode will also mark the return of Janis to the show after her absence from this week's episode, and will also most likely at least throw some hints about her pregnancy.

However, the most important part of the episode is destined to be the card game between Lloyd and Simon. While this material seems like it will be slightly filler-ish, I think that it'll reveal quite a lot through the characters' interactions. Who knows, we might even get so see some of the other scientists responsible for the blackout.

If you haven’t already caught on to it, FlashForward is getting into a habit of playing its hand slowly, especially as far as cast goes. As opposed to many other serialized shows, where most of the main characters were introduced in the first episodes, FlashForward means to add to its main cast gradually. We’ve already seen this in the introduction of characters like Gabrielle Union’s Zoey and Dominic Monaghan’s Simon, and we should be seeing it in the future, according to showrunner David Goyer.

“We’re introducing quite a few new characters down the line,” Goyer told MTV. Among those characters is the Japanesse woman from Bryce’s vision. “…her name is Keiko,” Goyer revealed, though he was deliberately tight-lipped about any more details, instead simply telling that she’ll be popping up in the ninth episode of the season, which will prominently focus on Bryce Varley.

And the Somalian boy from the end of “137 Sekunden”? Expect to see an adult version of him too. While this isn’t shocking (he did, after all, have a distinctive facial scar that would make him easy to identify for television audiences in the future), what’s interesting is who’s playing him. While it hasn’t been cemented on who will play the character, it’s been speculated that he will be played by Michael K. Williams (Omar from The Wire).

There’s also the character of Miles Fogel, who Goyer describes as “very important.” Portrayed by Sleeper Cell actor Michael Ealy, this character has been described by TV Guide as a “new thorn in Detective Benford’s side.” Am I the only one thinking that Miles is one of those responsible for the blackout, along with Simcoe and Simon?

As for the newly introduced Blue Hand man Jeff Slingerland (Callum Keith Rennie), who we first saw in this week’s “The Gift,” we should expect to see him at least “two or three more times this season and potentially for the second season.”

Now, while the cast will be continually growing, that doesn’t mean that we won’t be losing a few people too. The suicide of Agent Gough in “The Gift,” is most likely the first of many character deaths, and we should look to seeing a mostly amorphous cast, a la Lost and Heroes.

Can the future be changed?  That is the ultimate question that runs through nearly every episode of this show since the premiere.  Mark and Olivia desperately want to avoid their futures, while Aaron doesn't.  Demetri is accepting of his death, but must also have some yearning to avoid his bleak fate.

The answer is that you CAN change the future, and we learn that in the worst possible way tonight.  First, Mark, Demetri and Al infiltrate a meeting of the "Blue Hand Group", which they discovered in the previous episode.  Composed of "ghosts" – people who didn't see anything in their flashes – these people play fast and loose with their lives, convinced they're going to die anyways, so why not go nuts in the interim.

We see a few tense rounds of Russian Roulette (possibly the worst game ever invented).  Along the way we learn more about Al's flash forward.

In the end we lose someone.  Someone who desperately wanted to change someone else's future by proving that his own could be changed.  And we get a hint that there is more to Simon than meets the eye.

Here's a juicy piece of press for you — the press release for the ninth episode of FlashForward. Unlike "Scary Monsters and Super Creeps" or "Playing Cards with Coyote," this episode has a rather boring title, "Believe." However, that doesn't mean it's going to be a boring episode in the slightest. To the contrary, rather — there looks to be some action packed into this spoiler-filled summary for the episode.

Bryce begins his search for the woman in his flashforward, Aaron becomes concerned over Tracy's odd behavior, Mark attempts to track down the person responsible for texting Olivia and outing his drinking during his flashforward vision, and Demetri's co-agents try to find the mysterious caller who forewarned him about his unfortunate fate, on "FlashForward."

This press release is rather sloppy with the spoilers, and retrospectively mentions things that haven't happened yet (as of episode six). So, in the next three episodes, we should expect to find out that Bryce saw a woman in his flashforward (probably why he didn't commit suicide, because he had a girlfriend), and we should expect to see Aaron find Tracy.

Wait, what? Aaron's not supposed to find Tracy until six months in the future, in that desert camp that he saw in his flashforward, right? Apparently not. Already, we're finding out that all is not what it seems with these visions, especially Aaron, who recently learned that the remains were actually those of his daughter.

I'm very confused right now, but hey, that means the show is good, right?

Even FlashForward is getting into the Halloween spirit this week with an episode that features trick-or-treaters and Dominic Monaghan (not that he's particularly scary).  ABC has released four sneak peeks of the episode that will be airing on Thursday night.

DVD ratings for week 3 of the fall season (Oct 5 – 11) are in and Smallville and Dollhouse have reached the top spot yet again.  For week three Dollhouse received a little more than 40% increase (it actually hit 50% increase for its premiere episode) which is definitely good news for the beleagured show.  Although the boost doesn't do a whole lot in regard to the actual overall ratings, for a show like Dollhouse, its certainly going to help.

The week 3 top ten (except for 2 Monday night exceptions) features shows that all air on either Thursday or Friday nights.  Thursday night features some of the best shows of the week, making it difficult for some fans of shows that cross networks.  Friday nights have been branded with the timeslot of doom, with much lower than normal ratings for most networks.  But regardless of the actual gains in overall viewership, the DVR news is good because it shows that some fans of the show are doing whatever they can to enjoy their favorite shows, and it just might help remind Fox and The CW that while these shows are on a less than appealing night, they're still being followed.  The top 10 consists of:

1. Smallville – CW – 44% increase from DVR
2. Dollhouse – Fox – 40% increase from DVR
3. Fringe – Fox – 36% increase from DVR
4. Castle – ABC – 32% increase from DVR
5. Numb3rs – CBS – 31% increase from DVR
6. The Mentalist – CBS – 30% increase from DVR
7. FlashForward – ABC – 30% increase from DVR
8. Vampire Diaries – CW – 29% increase from DVR
9. Heroes – NBC – 29% increase from DVR
10. FlashForward SP – 10/9 – 29% increase from DVR

Fox has indicated that one of the main reasons Dollhouse has yet to be canceled yet is due to its successful DVR ratings.  But whether or not these DVR ratings will be enough to give us more Dollhouse, or any of these shows for that matter, will remain to be seen.

Olivia Benford is a complex woman who's deeply in love, but struggling with the recent events of the future flash she, and everyone else on the face of this planet, saw in the new ABC series FlashForward.  Olivia is played by actress Sonya Walger, who has guest starred on LOST since 2006 as Penelope Widmore, another woman deeply in love and struggling to keep that love intact.  TVOvermind had the privilege to speak to Sonya Walger yesterday about her role on the show, and what we can hope to see as the mysterious series progresses at a rapid pace.

On the series, Sonya's character Olivia is in a loving marriage, but one that has been strained due to her FBI husband's alcoholism.  He's clean now (for seven years) but the struggle that they've endured is evident from the opening moments of the pilot.  However, it becomes very clear very fast that this is a woman who has fought to keep a marriage, and a love, strong and together.  But when Olivia sees herself in bed with another man, who she's affectionately calling "honey" and who seems very comfortable in her and her husband's house, it throws her world into an upheaval.  She's been in denial that the flash forwards are actually going to happen, until an episode two weeks ago, called Black Swan, where she was finally forced to consider that these events are actually part of their future.  Despite the fact that she obviously seemed to accept the notion that these flash forwards are actually future flashes of her patients lives, has she in fact accepted her own fate, or is she still struggling with it?

"Yes, I think she's still very much struggling with it." Walger told us during a phone interview.  "I think its something she's going to fight to the end."  Walger also elaborated, saying that her character is unwilling to consider that the flash forwards will really happen because of the implications it has, that her marriage has ended and she has moved on.  How that can happen, so quickly, is not something that she can understand nor accept at this point.  Like the rest of us, watching this show from our living rooms, Olivia Benford simply doesn't have the full picture of events that lead up to that fateful day, April 29, 2010.  However, Walger did give us a clue that episode 8, which is titled "Playing Cards with Coyote" and airs on 11/12/2009 will involve events that have a huge impact on Olivia and have her more fearful than ever that these events are actually going to happen.

Another curious question that the audience is still struggling with is just what the flash forwards are at this point.  Are we seeing actual future events, and if so, can those events be changed?  Or perhaps these are just possible future events or even events from an alternate or parallel universe and our characters can change what they saw happening.  So should we consider the flash forwards themselves as gospel at this point, or will our point of view radically change in a way that gives us new perspective and insight on the same events that we've already seen?  Not knowing the outcome of the show herself, Walger could only give her opinion on this and tell us that she feels that these flash forwards are a fluid and ever-changing glimpse.  If what we saw turns out to actually be the real future, then we're probably going to learn at some point that our perspectives are skewed, and even the characters themselves may have been jumping to conclusions about what their flash forwards really meant (or will mean).

In talking about the mysteries and secrets of FlashForward the obvious question arose, and we couldn't help but be curious about the steps the show's producers take to keep future plot elements a surprise, and also how it compares to her experience with the Lost crew, which we know work very hard, but sometimes struggle to keep major plot developments a secret.

"Well, I can't really speak to the comparison because I was only ever a guest star on Lost, so I never received advance scripts or anything like that.  However there are a lot of precautions taken on the set [of FlashForward] to ensure the story isn't ruined by major plot developments being leaked.  The scripts are watermarked and we have to turn them in every day when we're done, so yes, there is a lot of security but I think its absolutely necessary to ensure the integrity and enjoyment of the show."

In mentioning Lost it brought up another good thought.  Sonya Walger, presumably, could return to Lost as a guest star when it begins early in 2010.  So hypothetically she could appear on both shows during the same week.  We asked Sonya if she'd consider that a surreal moment, or if it was nothing more than business as usual for her.

"It would be much more surreal for the fans than for me at this point.  I've certainly been on multiple shows at the same time before, so there's no real difference for me."

Before ending our interview we asked Sonya Walger one last question about fan reactions.  FlashForward has tried to embrace the rabid internet fans by creating an online forum, among other things, where fans can interact directly with the writers and show runners, and possibly even some of the actors on occasion.  We asked Walger if she followed the fan reaction to the episodes at all.

"I don't… no."  She went on to say that as an actress fan opinions of her work can influence her too greatly and impact her performance.  "It is a character that you're portraying, but you're pouring part of yourself into that person, and it can impact your performance on set if your not careful.  If I read a comment from some guy in Kansas who doesn't like my character or performance on the show, I'm going to end up taking those negative thoughts with me to the set that day.  And you can't let one fan influence your performance like that." Regardless of whether you like the character of Olivia Benford or not, you should certainly be able to understand the horror she faces.  She only just learned that her husband was drinking in his flash forward, and also that he lied to her about it.  This will no doubt continue to impact her and the decisions she makes going forward.  And just wait until she learns that her daughter Charlie saw something related to D Gibbons in her flash forward.  Those events, and other plot twists we can't yet fathom will mold her future flash into something that does make sense, and along with the other flash forwards, we'll finally have enough pieces of the puzzle to understand what it all means.  So will Olivia Benford.  We only have to wait until April 29, 2010.

The majority of tonight's episode takes place in Washington D.C., where Stan, Mark, Demetri and Vreede have gone to testify in front of a congressional hearing about the blackouts and ensure they keep receiving funding for their Mosaic investigation.  There we learn that Stan used to be friends with the President and he's very adept at playing the political game (he has some skeletons in his closet but he's not averse to using other people's skeletons to get what he wants).  We also meet Senator Joyce Clemente, who's a super-b*tch to Stan and to Mark.

While in D.C. the boys get attacked, which is coordinated with an attack on poor Janis back in L.A.  Earlier in the episode it's revealed that Janis is gay, which sort of conflicts with her vision of being pregnant.  At least, that's what her current girlfriend thinks.

In the FBI field office in L.A., Janis and Al also uncover some mysterious towers in the Somalian desert which were built shortly before the incident in Somalia.

Olivia has a chat about Mark's alcoholism with Aaron and later gets an annonymous text message saying that Mark was drinking in his flash.  She is very displeased.

In tonight's new episode of FlashForward Mark wants to investigate the potential blackout in Somalia in the 1990s, but Stanford won't agree to send him.  While Demetri investigates Alda (the blonde terrorist lady from the pilot), she tells him to investigate a restaurant in Indio, so he and Mark get sent there.  That turns out to be a bust, but Demetri tells Mark about the phone call he got detailing his murder.

Olivia does everything she can to avoid Lloyd Simcoe, determined not to get involved with him any further, but she does give him some good advice to connect with her son.  Meanwhile, she and Bryce argue about the validity of the flashes.  He's a believer, but she denies that they're real in an effort to avoid hers and preserve her marriage.  This leads to complications with one of their patients.  Bryce eventually proves to Olivia that the flashes are valid when the patient's flash helps save his life.

Nicole returns to the Benford house after going AWOL and we learn that she saw herself being murdered in her flash, but felt she deserved it.  Mark tells her that he'll protect her because she's like family, but her flash is obviously disturbing.

And in the last few moments we learn that Lloyd Simcoe is a very bad man and is in league with Charlie from Lost (Dominic Monaghan), who is now playing the mysterious Simon.  Those boys have been up to no good.

Now that FlashForward has been officially expanded to a full first season fans can focus on the mystery at hand – and this week's episode, "Black Swan", looks like it has the potential to be explosive.  The meaning behind that mysterious use of italics is just ahead.

It looks like Mark and Demitri have their hands on a particularly nasty perp.  Why could this young man be stockpiling uranium?  Is there a nuclear aspect to the event that caused the FlashForward, or does this nasty have something dirtier in mind?  All of that and two more tantalizing tidbits below – including a clip with the so-far sadly underused Zachary Knighton. Black Swan airs Thursday, October 15th at 8:00pm/est on ABC.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone:  ABC has ordered a back-nine for freshman drama FlashForward.  This means FlashForward will get a full season. Even if FlashForward were to be canceled – fat chance of that -  the series will catch-up with the FlashForward date.

ABC Caught everyone off-guard when they inserted news of the back-nine order into the press-release announcing previously leaked orders for Modern Family, Cougar Town, and The Middle.

Here's what ABC had to say about FlashForward's performance:

From 8:00-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, ABC’s “FlashForward” ranks No. 1 in Adults 18-49, leading CBS’ time-period veteran “Survivor: Samoa.” On its series debut telecast, the new ABC drama became the first regular program since “Friends” in 2004 to beat “Survivor” in the key young adult sales demo. The ABC freshman is an exceptionally strong draw among Adults 18-34, dominating its time period and qualifying as TV’s No. 1 new drama series this season. The new series is greatly improving its time period year to year for ABC, boosting the hour by 1.8 million viewers and by 32% in Adults 18-49 over the same nights last year. Dominic Monaghan's casting on FlashForward has generated huge island-sized buzz since before it was even announced.  It's true.  The first 'hint' of Dom's casting was in an ABC network promo where Dom told Gray's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey that he 'used to be' dead.  Naturally, LOST fans buzzed first with hopes of a Charlie Pace resurrection – hold that thought, Losites, it may be coming yet – but those hopes were dashed in favor of his FlashForward casting announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Okay, so we've all forgiven the immense hyperbole because at the end of the day it is just good to see our boy back on box.  Now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello, we know exactly when Dominic will be making his debut.

Question: Wasn’t Dominic Monaghan supposed to appear in the second FlashForward episode? What’s the deal exactly? —Frenchy

Ausiello: The exact deal is that he’ll turn up briefly next week.

Sort of disappointing if you were expecting to see Dom tonight, let alone last week.  Still, that's really not all that bad since David S. Goyer, FlashForward's showrunner, had indicated that he had actually moved up the introduction of Dominic's character. Originally, the character of Simon would have appeared further along into FlashForward's first season. Keeping that in mind, brace yourself for an agonizingly teasing introduction.  Odds are Goyer didn't restructure the entire plot to accommodate Dom's anxious fans, so Simon's initial appearances are bound to be mysterious.

First up, I've talked to someone just minutes ago who has seen FlashForward's third episode, 137 Sekunden (Sekunden is German for seconds, 137 being the total number of seconds the FlashForward lasts for).  By the time he got to the end of his recap, I was fricken excited.  Seems like 137 Sekunden is an action packed entry to the FlashForward story that finally gets down and dirty with some weirdo mythology and unexpected twist type things.

What I have here for you are a couple of featurettes that would probably be best viewed after you've watched the episode.  These are a couple of those 'anatomy of a scene' type videos with FlashForward's co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim.  Since we are the type of people who like to open our Christmas presents early, though, why don't we just go ahead and watch them now.  In case you missed the hidden meaning, there are spoilers in these videos.  Watch at your own peril.

UPDATE:  Oops, my mistake.  Although these are marked as scenes from 103, they are in fact from last week's episode.  In that case, ignore all of this spoiler talk and enjoy Mr. Guggenheim's artful interpretation of two scenes from last week's episode.

FlashForward is getting awesome, right? If you are anything like me, your head is still spinning after last week's FlashForward. The biggest question on my mind is "How will they follow up?" The pilot for FlashForward as event-driven goodness with great acting and a compelling mystery, but it still felt like it should end in the next hour, tops. This week FlashForward must pick up where it left off, and move forward without moving 'too' forward. Can the mysteries of the mosaic and the event sustain a series? Something tells me we are in very good friends.  Maybe it is these five clips…

Isn't it refreshing to see a pilot episode not titled "Pilot"? I was pleasantly surprised when FlashForward's first episode had a more creative and enigmatic title than "Pilot," unlike other shows in its vein, like Fringe and Lost. Of course, the title is the least interesting part of the episode.

I'd actually had the privelege of seeing the episode a few weeks ago, so tonight's airing was more of a rerun, but was no less exciting — it's one of the fastest-paced hours of television I've seen. And that's a good thing.

The episode starts off with Mark Benford awakening in an overturned car. There's the sound of shattering glass in the background, and he's got a nasty cut on his head. It's a surprisingly quiet environment for the scene of a car crash. He shimmies out of his seat in the car, sliding out the shattered rear windshield of the car. There's a body lying on the curb as he comes out, cementing the fact that we won't be dealing with a happy scene.

As he gets to his feet and walks around, there's Oceanic 815-reminiscent chaos surrounding him. People are screaming and running around, cradling dead loved ones and clutching at wounds. "Demetri!" cries out Benford, though he can't find who he's calling for — just a man covered in flames flailing about.

As the flaming man falls, we're treated to a pretty cool title sequence before being whisked away to four hours before, at the beginning of what looks to be "another beautiful day," according to the radio announcer. The sun rises over suburbia, and Mark Benford opens up his gun safe. Inside, in addition to his sidearm, is a note that says "You're a crappy husband. I hate you." Glancing over at his wife, Benford chuckles before grabbing his holster and badge.

He then goes over to sit down beside his wife, who is still asleep, on the bed. "I hate you too," he whispers, and they both chuckle. She reminds him about the garage door, but he's playfully "already forgotten," and instead goes to make breakfast for their daughter, Charlie, who is watching cartoons happily.

Benford leaves his house through the broken garage door, greeting the neighborhood cleaning crew as he goes. As he's walking out, Nicole, the Benford's babysitter,  shows up in a Volkswagon. Benford asks her if she'll be able to stay an extra hour so that Olivia can work the late shift. She doesn't mind — she's got "studying" to do anyway.

A little while later, Olivia has woken up, and calls Bryce Varley, her co-worker. She leaves him a voicemail expressing her concern and annoyance at his failure to show up at rounds the previous day. And she has appropriate reason to worry, as a forlorn Bryce is actually out on a pier overlooking the Pacific. He looks over the ocean for a moment, watching some surfers. After placing his wallet and cell phone on the railing, he reaches into his satchel and pulls out a gun.

Meanwhile, Benford is attending an Alcoholic's Anonymous meeting. A man, Aaron Stark, is speaking to the circle. His daughter Tracy, who fought in Afghanistan, was killed in the war, and her remains, only identifiable through DNA, were brought back to the U.S., which prompted him to become an alcoholic. After the meeting, Benford chastises Stark for his lack of social skills; Stark has been procrastinating on calling Amanda, a girl recommended to him by Benford, who he has refused to call. Stark argues that he's Benford's sponsor, and should be riding him, not the other way around. Stark cracks, agreeing to call Amanda, even though "nurses freak him out."

Nicole is with a guy in the Benford's living room, and they're not doing any studying at all while Charlie is upstairs taking a nap. She thinks she hears Charlie upstairs, and tells the boy that he'll have to leave as soon as they're finished.

Meanwhile, Benford and his FBI partner Demetri are surveying a mysterious woman, who is meeting with suspected terrorists. While snapping pictures, Demetri complains to Mark about the song his fiance has chosen for their wedding, "Islands in the Stream," which he believes is very corny. Benford realizes that he can't remember what he and Olivia danced to at their wedding.

Aaron looks at a picture of his daughter before climbing up to repair a power line, while Olivia discusses her daughter with a fellow surgeon before an operation.

Benford and Demetri, meanwhile, shadow their suspects by car, conferring with Stan Wedeck and Janis Hawk back at headquarters. As Benford and Demetri tail the suspects, they're suddenly discovered. The suspects speed off with the FBI in pursuit, narrowly dodging cars. Well, some cars. Others aren't so lucky.

As everything builds to a head — Olivia goes into surgery, Aaron climbs the power pole, Bryce brings the gun to his head, Nicole and her boyfriend romance, and Mark and Demetri continue their pursuit — Mark is suddenly thrown into a different time.

What follows is one of the trippiest sequences ever. Mark finds himself standing in an office, surveying a bulletin board covered with photographs and notecards. Among the words he sees: Mosaic. He's drinking from a flask, and he quickly scribbles on a calendar notecard, "Who else knows?," noticing a friendship bracelet on his wrist. Red lasers shine in the distance, and Benford prepares himself, cocking his weapon and hiding as two masked men weilding guns enter his office. One of the men has three stars tattooed on his arm. As Benford watches the two from his hiding place, he is suddenly thrust back into the present, in the overturned car where we found him in the pilot.

He stumbles out, and searches for Demetri among the chaos. He's approached by a worried Asian man, who is pointing frantically to a gas tanker, which soon explodes. Benford, in the aftermath of the explosion, jumps atop a car and discovers that the disaster is all around him — the entire freeway has fallen victim to this crash. Even buildings burn with black smoke as a result of crashed aircraft.

Benford soon finds Demetri, who is disoriented but okay. They rescue a woman from a burning car, and Benford tells Demetri to call the office and see what happened.

Bryce, meanwhile, wakes up with a bump on his head. Everyone around him on the pier has passed out as well, and he heroically goes to rescue some beached surfers, all thoughts of suicide gone.

Nicole goes to check on Charlie, who tells Nicole that she had a bad dream, and also drops the title of the episode when she reveals she dreamt that there were "no more good days."

Mark finds himself unable to call Olivia, and assists Demetri in the arrest of the mysterious blonde terrorist. Demetri questions the woman, but she denies any responsibility for the blackout. A crowd of people, witnessing the event, begins to surround Mark and Demetri, asking what happened. Benford doesn't know, but a man tells him that he heard on his radio that the event happened in San Diego as well. Demetri convinces Benford to go after Olivia on foot, and he does so in a painful-to-watch slow-motion running scene.

As he walks through the streets among looters and a strange kangaroo, he stops to watch a news report in the window of a nearby "Voltage City," which confirms that the flashforward happened everywhere, which is repeated to us by a viewer. Jeez, we got it already.

While watching, Benford gets a call from Olivia, confirming that she's okay, and that Nicole said Charlie was okay. Original author of Flashforward Robert J. Sawyer can be seen walking behind her, trying to make a call as well. Olivia is overwhelmed with patients, so she can't talk very long, and hangs up on Mark.

The patient she hung up on Mark for is a young, eight-year-old boy, who had been hit by a car during the flash. She reassures the still-conscious boy as he's wheeled away, and he tells her "I know, Olivia." She looks in shock at the boy as he is wheeled away. She takes him into trauma and is able to narrowly save his life with Bryce's help, though she reminds him he's not off the hook for his absence the previous day.

At FBI headquarters, Benford talks with Wedeck about the blackout. Wedeck tells him that the FBI is still gathering intel. As the two walk, they are joined by an FBI agent played by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. He tells them that NASA has not found anything regarding the cause, and Wedeck sarcastically wonders if the Pope has chimed into the discussion.

Wedeck calls the FBI into a board meeting in order to "wrap their heads around" the blackout. As death toll statistics are discussed, it's mentioned that even the vice president was killed when Air Force Two went down. However, Mark is more concerned with what the flashes were, as opposed to their impact. He tells of his vision, and everyone else agrees that they had similar visions. They come to the conclusion that their consciousness moved forward in time. Benford shares the date in which his flashforward took place, April 29, 2010, and everyone agrees that this was the same date theirs took place in as well.

Demetri soon returns with the blonde suspect. She insists that she's not responsible for the blackout, and Demetri reminds her that she was still planning on killing thousands of people. As Demetri and Mark catch up, an agent runs up, saying that he has a way to confirm that the flashforwards correlate: to call the Scotland Yard agent Fiona Banks whom he saw in his flash. They do so, and the details match up perfectly, leaving no doubt that the flashforwards are actually a glimpse into the future.

A television reporter tells the world that human brains being scanned during the blackout showed active engagement throughout the two minutes, seventeen seconds, which were consistent with a waking experience. The reporters tell that all the visions are seeming to corroborate, like a "grand Mosaic" is being filled in. Mark takes notice to this, because Mosaic was the name of the project he was working on in the future.

He tells Wedeck about this, and Wedeck asks them what they saw. Demetri saw nothing, he says; he simply blacked out. Demetri is more concerned with the blonde suspect than the events of the flashforward. Janis was going for a prenatal sonogram. Wedeck was in a "meeting," (he was using the bathroom) and "just happened to glance down" at the newspaper's sports page, giving him both the date.

Demetri suggests compiling all the stories together, and Janis thinks to create a website to do so. Mark thinks this is what he was doing in his flashforward, and Wedeck agrees to set up an inter-agency task force, which Mark, Demetri, and Janis will run. Demetri is skeptical, but Wedeck tells them to do it anyway.

That night, Demetri and Mark work on setting up the bulletin board Mark was looking at in his vision. Mark has Demetri write down names and items he remembers on yellow notecards, including "D. Gibbons," "Baby doll photograph," "Blue Hand," and "Frienship bracelet."Mark remembers the men coming to kill him, and sketches the three stars in one of the men's tattoo, placing them up on the board. He wants Janis to compile a list of all the D. Gibbons in the world. Demetri, meanwhile, is worried that his lack of a vision means that he'll be dead.

Mark returns home, and speaks briefly to Nicole, who wants some reassurance. She thinks God caused the blackout, as punishment.

Olivia, back at the hosptial, is tending to the young boy, whose mother died in the blackout and whose father is Stanford professor Lloyd Simcoe, who they have been unable to locate. Bryce reveals to Olivia about his suicide attempt, but assures her that those thoughts are gone from his mind now, because his vision convinced him that he'd be still alive, and happy. Olivia reveals her vision wasn't so good — it depicted the end of her marriage.

Mark talks to Aaron about the flashforward, and reveals that he was drinking again. He knows Olivia would have left him if he'd relapsed, and he worries about this. Aaron tells him not to relapse. Aaron reveals that his vision showed him finding Tracy in some sort of desert tent. He has mixed feelings about the whole experience, but wants his vision to come true, even though Mark doesn't want his own to.

Mark repairs the garage door as Olivia comes home, because it was a "slow day." The two go up to visit Charlie before going to bed themselves. As they lie in bed, Mark shares his flashforward with Olivia, though he leaves out the part about himself drinking. Olivia is very reluctant to reveal her vision, but Mark insists multiple times, until she tells him that she saw herself with another man, who she didn't even know. She then leaves the bedroom.

Mark goes outside to sit on the swingset, and Charlie follows him out, telling him she had a bad dream. As the two sit together, she gives him a friendship bracelet, which he later will be wearing in his dream. She puts the bracelet on his wrist, and he stares up into the night sky, afraid of the inevitability that looms before him.

Meanwhile, Demetri is back at the office, talking to his fiance. He agrees to dance to "Islands in the Stream." Their conversation is interupted by Janis, who wants to show Demetri something. He gets up to go and look, and she shows him security camera footage from around the world at the time of the blackout. They all show the same thing, except for one tape of a baseball game. Janis zooms in to reveal everyone passing out, except for one man, who stands and exits the stadium, looking around as he does so.

"Who is he?" Janis asks. "And why is he still awake?"

FlashForward fulfilled its destiny this week and became the latest and greatest of ABC's drama lineup, leaving fans clamoring for more. For those of you who just can't get enough, here are a couple of spoilery sneak peeks from next week's episode of FlashForward, 1.02 "White To Play." Interesting stuff indeed!

A global blackout occurs suddenly, interrupting the lives of several people: Mark Benford, an FBI agent who, along with his partner Demetri, was chasing down suspected terrorists with the help of Stan Wedeck and Janice Hawk; Olivia Benford, Mark's surgeon wife, was going into surgery; Bryce Varley, Olivia's co-worker, who was contemplating suicide at the beach; Aaron Stark, Mark's alcoholic best friend who lost his daughter in the war was climbing a power pole; and Nicole, the Benfords' babysitter, was having an affair while Charlie Benford slept.

Then the flashforward occurrs, interrupting their lives. Mark sees a vision of himself organizing a "Mosaic Collective," to investigate the flashforwards, while being hunted by mysterious masked, armed men. Olivia sees herself with another man. Bryce sees a future of himself which causes him to not want to commit suicide, while Aaron sees a vision of himself finding his daughter alive. Demetri, however, does not experience any vision, leading himself to believe that he was dead in the future.

While the characters are unsure of whether the future was a certainty, Mark becomes increasingly worried that it's an inevitability, especially when his daughter gives him a friendship bracelet that he saw himself wearing in the visions. Olivia, meanwhile, finds herself treating the injured son of the man whom she saw herself with in the vision.

As the world recovers from the flashforward, Janice sees something strange in the security cameras from a baseball game — someone did not pass out from the flashforward, and instead walked around during the two-minute, seventeen second blackout. "Who is that?" she asks, "And how are they still awake?"

We LOST fans have been targeted, with a vengeance – by FlashForward. ABC Has spared no expense in attracting us to their latest epic sci-fi/drama series FlashForward, and – whether you like the overt tactics or not – it was for good reason. FlashForward is, in fact, the type of television show that LOST fans can appreciate. I’ve seen the pilot for FlashForward, so I thought it would be appropriate at this time for a [humble] LOST fan to opine on ABC’s widely publicized comparison to our show of choice, apple to apples.

I hope these pictures aren't any indicator of how the how the actual episodes will be. I've managed to get my hands on the promo photos for the third and fourth episodes of FlashForward, entitled "137 Sekunden" and "Black Swan," respectively. There's not much meat for you spoiler-lovers to dig into, but no worries — tomorrow night's premiere will wash away all your doubts. I'm not exactly sure why I'm posting this as a spoiler, because there's absolutely nothing revealed in it whatsoever. However, for those of you who hang on every bit of material released in promotion for FlashForward (okay, I'll admit, I'm one of those people), you might want to give these short clips a gander. Monaghan says a little by saying a lot through these videos, saying he can't reveal anything in the first and then talking about how good FlashForward will be in the second.

Heard enough about FlashForward yet?  No?  Good, because we have some more for you.  David S. Goyer recorded some soundbites for FlashForward would-be fans that address the over-arching plan for the show, and you may find some of it to be surprising.

Goyer has come off as one of the most fan-scene astute producer's in the television game.  So far, every move made online has been the right one, and when he records a soundbite, posts a note on RedPandaResources, or – seemingly – jots down his laundry list it is done with an uncanny awareness of what his audience might like to hear.

Serialized shows, for instance, invoke a sort of gag reflex from TV fans anymore.  Will the story spend too much time on the taffy puller?  Is there a plan?  Audiences want to know what to expect if they invest a substantial amount of their attention on a television show, and who can blame them?  Goyer is quick to put minds at ease here.  FlashForward has a story plan that runs 3-5 seasons, not bad at all.  More surprising, though, is the revelation that the storyline being kicked off this season will actually be resolved this season.

I'm still trying to figure out how they can turn the basis of the pilot – the world's population taking  a two minute mental time trip into the future – into a recyclable television series device.  Goyer says he's going to take us places we'd never expect given the premise, so I guess we'll just need to trust him.  The news that FlashForward will resolve this storyline, though, is kind of dizzying.  What will the 2-4 other seasons cover then?  Intriguing, to say the least.  Here's David Goyer to talk us through it.

FlashForward spoilers are scarce, save for a few notices like this.  Casting notices, as spoiler fans know, can sometimes yield interesting bits of information concerning your favorite shows.  In this case, they may not mean much at all to FlashForward fans – but then again, maybe we should all read between the lines.

Debuting September 24th, FlashForward is one of the most hotly anticipated shows of the season, yet casting notices have been purposefully vague and the title releases have been downright weird at times.  You might go as far as to suggest that the FlashForward team is utilizing some good old fashioned misdirection.  Consider this casting notice for Gary in episode 8.



[GARY] 40s, Caucasian. Hard, aggressive. A middle-management guy, he's committed to doing whatever the higher-ups need, even if it takes him into morally questionable territory. Please note in current script this is a Non-Speaking role, but with the strong possibility of returning in future episodes. CO-STAR

It would seem that Gary is some kind of heavy. Middle-management has been used as a codeword for everything from mafia hitman to soldier in casting notices. Is he as silent as he seems? For someone being sold as heavily background, there is a huge emphasis on the notion that Gary will be returning in future episodes.

These really include nothing new, but give a sneak peek at the stars and guest stars of the new and returning shows, which include FlashForward, Castle, The Forgotten, and Modern Family. CHRISTIAN SLATER STARS IN "THE FORGOTTEN," JERRY BRUCKHEIMER'S FIRST SERIES FOR ABC, PREMIERING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

In the United States, the remains of over 40,000 people have yet to be identified. When police investigations reach a dead end, civilian volunteers across the country work to name — the forgotten. From executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, "the forgotten" is a drama series in which a team of dedicated amateurs – The Forgotten Network — work on murder cases involving unidentified victims. After the police have exhausted all leads, a group of volunteers led by Alex Donovan (Christian Slater), must first solve the puzzle of the victim's identity in order to then help catch the killer. These are citizen volunteers solving extraordinary crimes. Their persistence and compassion for the cases put them on a personal and emotional journey that focuses on giving names back to the deceased. The series premiere of "the forgotten" airs TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.

In the premiere episode, "Pilot," viewers are introduced to Alex and the rest of The Forgotten Network — Candace Butler (Michelle Borth), a confident, headstrong young woman who avoids the crushing boredom of her mundane job by helping to identify victims; Lindsey Drake (Heather Stephens), a resilient high school science teacher who volunteers as a form of penance for a crime committed by her husband; Walter Bailey (Bob Stephenson), a well-intentioned phone company employee and true-crime enthusiast whose zealousness can sometimes complicate investigations; Tyler Davies (Anthony Carrigan), a street smart medical school dropout and aspiring artist who is court-ordered to join the Network to satisfy his community service; and Grace Russell (Rochelle Aytes), a resourceful homicide detective with the Chicago Police, who is Alex's former protŽgŽe and now his main link to the department – as they try to solve the case of "Highway Jane," a young woman murdered and left in the woods.

Starring in "the forgotten" are Christian Slater as Alex Donovan, Michelle Borth as Candace Butler, Heather Stephens as Lindsey Drake, Bob Stephenson as Walter Bailey, Anthony Carrigan as Tyler Davies and Rochelle Aytes as Grace Russell.

HOUSE (FOX)

Packed full of sarcastic witticisms from the eponymous grouchy yet genius medic, season five saw Dr Gregory House (Laurie) continue to unravel the most unusual of medical complaints (ruling out lupus each time); but a turning point came when team member Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn) took his own life. As House struggled with his feelings about the suicide, his addiction to pain medication began to spiral out of control. Soon he was hallucinating about conversations with the deceased Amber (Anne Dudek) and as the series built to its finale a drug induced episode led House to hallucinate he had a passionate sexual encounter with love interest and sparring partner Dr Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein). As the season concluded, Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) took House to a psychiatric institution.

Moving away from Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, season six begins with a two-hour episode based in Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital where the doctor is now the patient sptv050769. “The beginning of the season is primarily focussed on House trying to find some semblance of sanity” says executive producer David Shore, “and he isn’t necessarily succeeding.” Events in the premiere episode take place over a two or three month period and Emmy® winner Andre Braugher is confirmed to guest star as House’s doctor.

As the season progresses, House’s transition back to normal life is far from easy. As the diagnostician moves in with Wilson on his release from hospital and begins his efforts to reclaim his medical licence, the relationship between House and his best friend is explored. And although taking a back seat in the series, according to Shore, House and Cuddy’s relationship will continue to spark. After all, as Wilson pointed out, House’s hallucination of sex with Cuddy was the reality he wants to exist.

Elsewhere, Foreman (Omar Epps) takes control of the diagnostics department in House’s absence, leading to tensions between himself and Thirteen (Olivia Wilde), while the newly married Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and Chase (Jesse Spencer) return to more prominent roles in the team.

The voice of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones, will guest star later in the series as an African dictator who becomes a patient at the hospital.

Executive produced by David Shore, Katie Jacobs and The Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer, HOUSE was the most watched television show in the world in 2008. With three technical advisors working on the show – led by Lisa Sanders an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Yale School of Medicine – the show’s medical credentials certainly stack up. In 2005, Laurie appeared on the cover of US Magazine TV Guide as "TV's Sexiest Man" and, in 2008; House was voted the second sexiest television doctor ever, behind ER’s Doug Ross (George Clooney). The series also bares strong links with criminal detective Sherlock Holmes, and not just in House’s indifference to patients and addiction to drugs; his apartment number is 221B.

"Modern Family," a new half-hour comedy that takes an honest and often hilarious look at the complexities of modern day families, premieres WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (This program will repeat Friday, Sept. 25, from 9:00-9:30 p.m.)

"Pilot" — Today's families come in all shapes and sizes, and that is very evident in Jay Pritchett's very full and very blended family. Jay and his new gorgeous and much younger wife, Gloria, are happily married and getting accustomed to their new life together. But when her pre-teen son develops a crush on a 16-year-old girl, it becomes apparent that Jay and Gloria may have some generational and cultural gaps to bridge. Jay's grown daughter, Claire, has a family of her own — three kids and a husband, Phil, who is practically a giant kid himself. Things get a little tense when their teenage daughter, Haley, brings a boy home and Phil tries to adopt the cool, hip dad approach. Then son Luke misuses of his BB gun, which results in Phil and Claire turning it right back on to him. Jay's other grown son, Mitchell, is in a committed relationship and has just adopted a baby girl from Vietnam with his life partner, Cameron. They're going through the joys and anxieties of bringing a baby home for the first time, but Mitchell still has the daunting task of introducing their new addition to the whole family.

"Pilot" was written by Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, and directed by Jason Winer.

FlashForward could well be the most eagerly-awaited drama coming this Fall. Produced by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), boasting a killer cast including Joseph Fiennes and Dominic Monaghan, and containing a premise of epic proportions, ABC could have another hit on their hands.  They are going on a marketing blitz in an attempt to create as much buzz as possible ahead of the show’s September 24^th premiere. They seem to be following the same formula that made Lost such a success – creating chatter and buzz early on as a way of establishing a fanbase prior to the show even airing.

For the uninitiated, FlashForward focuses on a worldwide event labelled as the Global Blackout (or GBO). This GBO results in every single person on Earth experiencing a loss of consciousness for two minutes and seventeen seconds – during this time, most people experience a vision of their respective futures six months down the line.

The marketing drive for FlashForward began largely at San Diego Comic-Con 2009. The activities at Comic-Con centred on The Mosaic Collective, a fictional organisation aiming to collate the respective flashforwards of those who entered their booth. The intention of the organisation is establish some kind of pattern and work out how and why the GBO happened in the first place. Tubefilter has an excellent guide to all the goings-on in the ARG.

Now, ABC is seeking to branch out into print advertisements. Variety reports that certain ads for the show include within them odd black-and-white codes. When these are held up to a webcam, the picture on their computer screen turns into a three-dimension advert for the show. Then, once clicked, the pictures turn into minute-plus clips from FlashForward. This new technique has been dubbed “augmented reality”, and was produced by ABC with guidance from its web team.

“We think it's fun and savvy enough for the group of fanboys that are out there,” said Darren Schillace, ABC VP for marketing and advertising. “Once you watch all the videos, it's a 10-minute experience. In the normal world, you'd never spend 10 minutes with a print ad.” These intriguing adverts will appear in publications designed for a more technology-oriented audience, including Wired and Popular Mechanics.

This all seems very futuristic and space-agey to me, and it shows that ABC is really committed to making FlashForward a success. Initial buzz from critics has been extremely positive, but it remains to see whether viewers will latch on to a show that could well end up with a mythology as dense as Lost’s. What I do know is that I will definitely be watching.

By now you've heard of ABC's FlashForward.  Hell, by now your dog has heard of ABC's FlashForward.  ABC has been relentlessly saturating the air, print, and web waves with word of the new show, and for good reason. Like LOST before it, FlashForward promises to put ABC the front of the pack when it comes to embracing original 'big mythos' styled epics. Every season the nets parade the latest gaggle of industrial prime-time fodder, fresh from the cookie-cutter assembly lines.  Amongst the softball pitches there is always a small number of shows that steer clear of the beaten paths of formula and aspire to be something more: blockbusters.  Most wind up the elite kibble of internet fan-folk, destined for the Nielsen-governed trash heap while dedicated viewers scream indignation at how nobody 'gets' it.

With LOST coming to an end, it is no surprise that ABC is getting behind FlashForward – a show that very well could become the new roost for fans of the island mystery. FlashForward's concept certainly puts the series well outside of the formulaic safe-bets of the season. Here's a description of what the series is all about from ABC, along with a new Sneak Preview released earlier today.

What would you do if you were given a glimpse of the future? Would you accept what you saw and live life to its fullest, or would you do everything in your power to change your destiny? When the world's population is given a glimpse of their future, it forces everyone to come to grips with whether their destinies can be fulfilled or avoided, in ABC's exciting new drama, "FlashForward."

It's just another normal day in Los Angeles. FBI agent Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes, "Shakespeare in Love") and his partner, Demetri Noh (John Cho, "Star Trek," the "Harold & Kumar" film series), are in the midst of a car chase monitored by their boss, Stanford Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") and colleague Janis Hawk (Christine Woods); Mark's wife, Dr. Olivia Benford (Sonya Walger, "Lost"), is in the middle of surgery; Dr. Bryce Varley (Zachary Knighton) is weighing a potentially life-ending decision; Mark's friend, Aaron Stark (Brían F. O'Byrne, "The International"), is working high above the ground on power lines; and Nicole (Peyton List) — baby-sitter to Mark and Olivia's daughter, Charlie — is in the throes of passion with her boyfriend when suddenly and without warning, every person on Earth blacks out for two minutes and seventeen seconds and sees a series of events from their own future, taking place on April 29, 2010 at 10:00 p.m., Pacific Time. For some the future will be joyous and hopeful; for others, shockingly unexpected; and for a few, it simply doesn't seem to exist.

Don't let anyone tell you differently; FlashForward is the show to watch this year. I was convinced of that within the first five minutes of the pilot episode, and I am still convinced. Not since Lost has there been such a perfect blend of mystery and character drama, and I can't wait to see how the series expands and develops.

Before you watch the show, however, it's important that you get one huge misconception out of your head. FlashForward is not the new Lost. Sonya Walger, who has appeared on both shows, sums it up perfectly: " It's a huge compliment being (mentioned) in the same breath as Lost. (But) I think the similarity begins and ends with big ensemble casts."

There are still little echoes of Lost, the most notable being the opening moments of the series; a devastating highway pileup that is similar to the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815. But the show quickly establishes itself as a different beast. It's not about survival — it's about solving the puzzle.

FlashForward is indeed its own unique beast; it barely even follows the novel it was based upon. The characters are much different than those in the novel; the very nature of the flash itself has been altered so drastically that I no longer feel that reading the novel (a great read, by the way) spoiled my viewing experience of the series at all. This isn't True Blood; Goyer and Braga simply took the basic concept of the novel and gave it their own interpretation.

The characters of FlashForward are just as interesting as the premise itself. Mark Benford, played by Joseph Fiennes, is a relatable protagonist. A former alcoholic, FBI agent Benford is in a playful relationship with his wife, surgeon Olivia (Sonya Walger), and together they have a young daughter, Charlie. The dynamic between the two is fun to watch, and they surprisingly have good chemistry together.

Demetri Noh (John Cho) is Benford's FBI partner, and is slightly less experienced and more excitable than Benford. He also provides some of the comic relief through the fairly dark first episode, including a short monologue about why he doesn't want to dance to "Islands in the Stream" at his wedding. Benford and Noh are supervised from afar by Janis Hawk (Christine Woods) and Stan Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance), who later serve a greater purpose in the aftermath of the flashforward. Seth MacFarlane, best known for being the creator and a voice artist for the animated comedy Family Guy also has a role as an FBI agent.

Meanwhile, Olivia leaves Charlie in the care of the promiscuous babysitter Nicole (Peyton List), who has sexual partners in the Benford's living room while Charlie is upstairs asleep. Olivia also has a troubled co-worker, Bryce Varley (Zachary Knighton), who is contemplating suicide prior to the flashforward. Mark's friend and Alcoholic's Anonymous sponsor Aaron (Brian O'Byrne) is also depressed, having lost his daughter in the war.

We meet these characters on the day of the flashforward, and only see them from the four-hour period prior to the flashforward onward. However, by the end of the pilot, most of the characters have become greatly relatable, especially after seeing their reaction to the two minute, seventeen second glimpse of the future which suddenly occurs during the middle of the day.

While I'm not going to tell you what any of the characters saw in their flashes, I will tell you that they're definitely the most stylistic scenes I've seen on television in a while. Mark's, which is featured the most prominently, plays like a Zack Snyder film on LSD — the film speeds up and slows down constantly, and is interspersed with random images of seemingly unrelated maps and diagrams. Though they're not presented the way I would have presented them, they're still very evocative and portray an almost-claustrophobia that affects the audience almost as much as it does the characters.

That's not to say FlashForward doesn't have its faults. The acting is a little wooden at times, and I wasn't always convinced by the sincerity of some of the dialogue. But all in all, these few negatives are heavily outweighed by the positive — especially the ending of the episode, an absolutely fantastic cliffhanger accentuated with a slowly crecendoing score that left me wanting to see more of the series, even as the ABC Studios logo rolled onto the screen to the same muted score. I actually stood up, pointed at the screen, and said to myself, "That's what a cliffhanger is supposed to be." If every episode ends like that, it'll have viewers literally begging for more, especially since Dominic Monaghan doesn't appear in the first episode (though I have a theory that we may have seen his character), and Jack Davenport only does briefly.

The show, through the first episode, only gave us a glimpse of what's to come, and will hopefully continue to meticulously unfold into new layers throughout its run. As I've said before, if the rest of the series is anywhere near the level of quality that this episode is, then it'll be one for the books.
