It’s not shocking at how well CBS does in the ratings. After all, millions upon millions of people tune in each week (and several nights a week) to their ever popular CBS procedural dramas like CSI or NCIS. But now, for the first time since 1987, CBS has won the four consecutive fall season opening weeks. Their shows are powerhouses right now.
For the week ending October 17 their five new shows for this season – Mike & Molly, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, $#*! My Dad Says and The Defenders – had the week’s top viewers for new shows and three of those shows – Mike & Molly, $#*! My Dad Says and Hawaii Five-0 – were the top three in adults 18-49.
Existing shows such as The Big Bang Theory, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The Mentalist all posted week-to-week increases, and CBS had six of the ten most popular shows of the week. TVbytheNumbers has a more complete picture of CBS’ recent accomplishments:
CBS placed first in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the fourth consecutive week, marking the first time since 1987 that the Network has won the opening four weeks of a season in all key ratings measures, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 17, week four of the 2010-2011 television season.
CBS again had the week’s top five new programs in viewers (MIKE & MOLLY, HAWAII FIVE-0, BLUE BLOODS, $#*! MY DAD SAYS and THE DEFENDERS) and the top three in adults 18-49 (MIKE & MOLLY, $#*! MY DAD SAYS and HAWAII FIVE-0)
CBS had six of the week’s top 10 programs: NCIS; NCIS: LOS ANGELES; THE MENTALIST; CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION; CRIMINAL MINDS and Two and a Half Men.
THE DEFENDERS, which swept its time period for the first time this season, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, $#*! MY DAD SAYS, THE BIG BANG THEORY and THE MENTALIST all posted week-to-week increases.
CBS won the Monday-Friday 10:00 PM time period in viewers and key demographics every night this week.
For the week in viewers, CBS (11.05m) placed ahead of ABC (8.78m), FOX (7.53m) and NBC (7.14m). For the week in households, CBS (6.8/12) leads ABC (5.6/09), NBC and FOX (4.5/08, each).
For the week in key demographics, CBS was first in adults 25-54 (3.6/09) and adults 18-49 (2.7/08). CBS won its fourth consecutive week in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. Season-to-date, CBS is first in both adults 25-54 (4.3/11) and adults 18-49 (3.3/09).
