Greta Gerwig has attracted a lot of attention this year for her excellent turn in Frances Ha, so much so that she’s now landed the lead in her very own CBS sitcom. It’s the How I Met Your Mother Clone, How I Met Your Dad. The OCD person in me is really bothered by the fact that they’re not calling it “How I Met Your Father,” but I’m sure they have their reasons. Stupid reasons.
Anyway, Gerwig will be the titular woman telling the story about how she met her husband. Gerwig is expected to produce and write as well, should the show move from pilot to series. Which I assume it will, because this is CBS and if 2 Broke Girls can, anything can.
The format of How I Met Your Dad is said to be a bit different than the original show, and THR has the synopsis:
“Gerwig will play the lead role of Sally, a female Peter Pan who never has grown up and has no idea where she’s going in life. She just has figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A breakup is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who often are too willing to give “good” advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.”
That description of Gerwig’s character sounds a LOT like the one she played so well in Frances Ha, which is probably a good plan. I’m really hoping that there will be no kids stuck on a couch for nine years this time around.
