Mad Love Debut Moved Up a Week

In slightly less dramatic scheduling news than the NBC kerfuffle involving Law & Order: Los Angeles, CBS has announced that they’re moving the premiere of Mad Love up a week to…you guessed it, Valentine’s Day according to TV Guide. The move is said to be strictly for marketing purposes.

Mad Love has had an interesting history, as it was an off-cycle pick-up for the network and has experienced significant cast turn over in its short life. Before even a frame was shot, out went Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Tony winner Dan Fogler (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), and Ashley Austin Morris (The Electric Company); in came Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Tyler Labine (Reaper), and Lizzy Caplan (Party Down). You’d think that would be it, but Caplan had only agreed to guest star, so Judy Greer (Archer) came on to finalize the cast for good. Rounding things out are Jason Biggs in his first regular TV role in about 15 years and Hal Williams.

Mad Love will premiere at 8:30, booting veteran Rules of Engagement to the post-Big Big Theory spot where it will in turn replace (Bleep) My Dad Says once that finishes its season next month. It tells the story of two people who meet on top of the Empire State Building and start a romance, but their respective best friends can’t stand one another. I generally don’t watch a tremendous amount of CBS, but I’ll definitely be tuning in to Mad Love. With a premise brimming with potential and a cast that’s quite impressive, I think it has a shot to make an impact not only with critics but with fans.

Are you excited for the show to premiere? How do you think it’ll do following How I Met Your Mother? Were all the cast moves worth it?
