Is Trauma Dead? Is Chuck Returning Soon?

Following news that NBC has cancelled Southland even before it's new season has started, word on the traumastreets now is that the next NBC hour long drama to be axed is Trauma. If true, that means two programs highly pimped by the Peacock Family, both with expensive budgets (I mean...Weren't the helicopters the real stars of Trauma?), will face their maker prematurely thanks to the number crunchers at the network.

I'm admittedly not that panic stricken over the cancellation of either show for two reasons. One, in today's world of "If a show's successful let's bring out another one just like it", there's just too many cop/hospital/forensics shows out there that promise to be "a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops (or surgeons, or forensic teams), criminals, victims and their families".

chuckTwo, it appears that the void left by the cancellation of Trauma will lead to the early return of Chuck, one of the few innovative, funny, and original series left on network television, critically acclaimed, loved by scores of fans - just not enough to please the bean counters.

Here's an idea. Monday night on network and cable television is tough. Let's hope NBC has the brains left to not return Chuck to Monday night. Perhaps there's one wise programmer left there who will realize that The Biggest Loser can be split in two, with the first hour shown at 8pm on Monday, followed by Heroes, then the second hour shown at 8pm on Tuesday, followed by Chuck.

It's a good plan...let's see if someone out there is listening.

NO! Not Trauma as well- I am really enjoying that show. Whay can't the TV Gods take Mercy (aka Grey's Anatomy II) instead? NBC, I am really starting to dislike you. I still haven't forgiven you for Journeyman.

Seriously, NBC needs to take advantage of Tuesday nights. NCIS (regular and LA) dominate the ratings because NOTHING ELSE IS ON! If NBC would air Chuck on Tuesdays, instead of wasting two whole hours on Biggest Loser, it would have a serious chance to have a ratings success on its hands, something it hasn't seen in years. Moreover, Chuck is one of the best shows on TV and it deserves every possible chance at success.

    • Good point, Mike. When I reposted this on my blog I suggested that NBC split The Biggest Loser – showing Monday at 8 and Tuesday at 8, followed by Heroes and Chuck at 9. Of course, it's a good idea. They probably won't listen.
