chuck_nbc_tv_show1In the 2009-10 NBC schedule, “Chuck” is still an unknown. NBC has announced that “Heroes”, “Southland”, and “Parks and Recreation” will have new seasons along with six new series.

The lobbying campaign to save “Chuck” that critics and fans have been running the last few weeks has still been going strong. Hope still exists for this show and others as NBC has stated that, “additional series pickups” will be announced on May 19th when they reveal the 2009-10 schedule.

Another show that has an uncertain future is “My Name is Earl.” The show is currently in its fourth season and has not been confirmed as a part of the new season line up. Speculation on whether it will remain on NBC or jump to another network, with FOX being the lead contender in this speculation, has been extensive.

“Medium” is also currently missing from the confirmed announcements even though it was earlier reported as being picked up for a sixth season. Gunning for its 20th season that would tie the “Gunsmoke” record for the longest running primetime drama, “Law & Order” has also not been mentioned in the schedule yet.

Of the new shows that have been announced so far, four of them are dramas – “Parenthood,” “Trauma,” “Day One,” and “Mercy”. While none of the time slots for these shows have been revealed yet, “Day One” is being called an “event series” (meaning limited run) that will premiere after the Winter Olympics.

Angela Bromstad, NBC's entertainment president reports "these new series will showcase fresh talent and bold, original concepts that are extremely well executed. We are grateful to the producers, casts and crews — and our team — who have delivered incredibly compelling and entertaining new series."

More definite announcements to the NBC lineup include “The Jay Leno Show” at 10 pm EST Monday through Friday. Returning shows include “The Office,” “30 Rock,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Friday Night Lights,” and “The Celebrity Apprentice”. Several unscripted shows have also been confirmed including the Jerry Seinfeld-produced “The Marriage Ref,” “Breakthrough with Tony Robbins,” and “Who Do You Think You Are?” a celebrity genealogy show. A six-episode run has also been promised to “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday” at some point during the upcoming season.
