Comedy Central Cancels 'Norm MacDonald', Onion Sportsdome

It's a bad day to be a fan of sports news parody, as Comedy Central has announced the cancellations of both Sports Show with Norm Macdonald and Onion Sportsdome after one season each. Comedy Central recently debuted Jon Benjamin Has a Van in the post-Tosh.O timeslot that both Sports Show and Sportsdome aired in.

Sports Show was SNL alum Macdonald's first live action series since 1999's The Norm Show, taking a sort of Tosh-meets-Daily Show stab at the sports world through web videos and field segments. (Macdonald has been doing a lot of stand-up, guest appearances, and voice work in the time since Norm.) Designed as a Sportscenter/ESPN parody, Sportsdome featured appearances from real life sports reporters (Danyelle Sargent) and athletes (Gary Payton). The show had been on hiatus since April.

Did you watch either Sports Show or Onion Sportsdome? How disappointed are you about the cancellations? What do you think the cast/correspondents of both should do next?

  1. I watched Norm's Sports show since it came on in front of the Daily Show. I thought it was funny, but not terribly funny.

I tried to watch both when they came out but didn't get any laughs out them. Sports just isn't that funny. I hope we get a chance to see the Onion News series.
