Traditionally, Thursday at Comic-Con is a celebration of new movies. We know that this is TVOvermind, but as we are here, we thought we would bring you everything that we can. So, the first panel up is for the new DreamWorks animated movie Megamind. Presented in 3-D (of course it is!), the movie stars the voice talents of Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill.
The movie, which focuses on a super-villain named Megamind, began its panel with an "evil" touch -- Will Ferrel arriving on stage fully dressed as Megamind! Following him, Fey and Hill arrived on stage. Unfortunately for many in the room, Brad Pitt did not follow them out. Instead, a cardboard cutout of the inimitable Mr. Jolie was brought on stage. It was explained that the movie focusses on what makes a villain evil, nature vs nurture, and what happens when one's arch-enemy is eliminated.
After a rather excellent five minute preview was shown (in 3-D!), the guests took a few questions, ranging from one guy screaming out his love for Megamind before stripping off his clothes, to a girl telling Tina Fey that she "is f-ing hot," to Comic-Con legend Bob Stencil asking whether blue people will continue as a trend in Hollywood. A couple serious questions were asked about the animated filmmaking process, but the highlight may have been Tina Fey saying she is planning own fighting her nemesis, Betty White, in a pay-per-view death match, which she admits she would lose against the octaganerian.
From the shirt preview we saw, Megamind, looks like it is going to be really fun. Ferrell mentioned that the actors were encouraged to improvise during recording, so you know that e movie will be hysterical. Also, the 3-D actually looked good, as the movie was shot in 3-D, as opposed to it being retrofitted later. All in all, I think Megamind is going to be a big hit this November.
