Community returns for season 3 in a few weeks and we now have a first glimpse at John Goodman’s vice dean of the air conditioning repair program in this all new promo. There is also some big Community crossover news as Abed will be taking another trip outside of this show and on to another.
The promo shows Goodman facing up to and threatening the much smaller in height and stature Dean Pelton (Jim Rash- now bumped up to season regular) who has grown a hilarious looking goatee. This was the meeting that Community showrunner Dan Harmon was anticipating a few months ago when he told Vulture:
“When I heard we were going after Goodman, I got really excited about the idea of Jim Rash and Goodman on camera together.”
Well, Harmon sure was right to be excited by this prospect if this small clip is anything to go by and yep the word ‘rectum’ is uttered (or rather said in a somewhat menacing fashion). This recurring role will see Goodman return to TV comedy, he is currently starring in season 4 of Damages which is definitely on the much darker and dramatic end of the spectrum. This promo doesn’t feature Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire) but both Goodman and the man who played Omar really deserve their own spots.
There isn’t much new footage of the group; there is a shot of Jeff where he looks less than his normal perfect and preened self and another flash of what appears to be a dance montage. Both of these things I am thoroughly excited about seeing when we return to Greendale.
The other big Community news that was exclusively reported by AOL, is that Danny Pudi’s Abed will be popping up on another show. Last season he worked the background in an episode of ABC’s Cougar Town and this time he is staying on NBC and will be hitting up the fifth and final season of Chuck. As per AOL the details of this role are being kept secret but he will appear in episode five of the spy caper. Chuck doesn’t return till October 21 (when they will have Mark Hamill guest appearing) so there will be a little wait until you will see Pudi’s appearance. Does this mean that some of the Chuck folk might venture over to Greendale as some of the Cougar Town cast did for the season 2 finale? As a fan of both Community and Chuck I am excited about this crossover, what do you all think?
