Cosmos’s Ratings Not Stellar On Sunday Night

I can’t say I’m shocked to hear that FOX/Seth MacFarlane/Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s Cosmos reboot didn’t exactly burn up the 9PM slot this weekend. It premiered in third place with 5.8M viewers, according to Nielsen, but it’s easy to see why.

Sunday at 9PM is a hugely competitive slot, particularly this Sunday where it was up against A) the much-talked about True Detective Finale B) Ratings powerhouse The Walking Dead and C) The premiere of ABC’s hyped Resurrection, which won the night with 13.3M viewers. All of this is on top of the fact that Cosmos has Family Guy as a lead-in, and I can’t say that despite Seth MacFarlane’s involvement in both, that the type of people who are  sure to catch Family Guy every weekend are the type to tune into a wondrous exploration of the universe  five minutes later.

Hopefully ratings will improve as True Detective is over, The Walking Dead is ending soon, and Resurrection likely won’t see numbers that high again for a while. I really did love the Cosmos premiere, and you can watch it for yourself here if you missed it.
