Tonight on Criminal Minds: JJ’s Big Fight

Criminal MindsTonight sees the Criminal Minds team heading to Southern California after several bodies are found in lifeguard towers. The killer is using his job as a bartender to pick his victims; choosing the lonely and desperate as he “believes that he is being merciful, putting them out of their misery.” JJ (AJ Cook) suggests that this is “someone who is angry at the world” and she will face this anger in a confrontation with the unsub that turns physical.

This is a different situation that we will see JJ in, as she is the one member of the team who seems to have stayed out of danger for the majority of the seven seasons. AJ Cook is delighted that she gets to kick some ass tonight and told TV Guide that “My wish was granted! I was so excited when I got the script. It was like a kid in a candy store moment. I was just super giddy about it.” As you can see from the promo photo above things are going to get bloody for JJ and Cook teased this “We actually got some really great behind-the-scenes footage that I think the fans should keep an eye out for we walk through the stunt process and they filmed me getting the beat-up makeup on.”

Certain aspects of this job has caused friction at home for JJ and we saw some disagreement between JJ and Will (Josh Stewart) earlier this season about her return to the BAU. This incident is not going to make things easier in JJ’s personal life and will show how hard it is to juggle this job as an agent and her role as a mother. We will also get to find out something “eye-opening” about JJ and another member of the team tonight, it isn’t something romantic so what do you think it could be? This will be a development that happened while JJ was away for the latter half of season six and it is good that something positive is happening in terms of story evolution, out of the terrible creative decision that saw AJ Cook and Paget Brewster temporarily leaving last year.

Outside of the case we will also get to see how things are between Hotch (Thomas Gibson) and Beth (Bellamy Young) who are both in training for triathlons. As you can see from the sneak peek below things seem to be going well between the pair and it is good to see Hotch with a smile on his face and enjoying himself.

Are you looking forward to getting to finally see this fearless and physical side of JJ?

Check out an extended promo and sneak peek for “Closing Time” below.
