Now that's how you do a solid episode of Ringer! As much as I've enjoyed this show (and I have), I have been anxious for something to happen. This week's episode of Ringer moved ahead several plotlines and didn't leave many of them dangling any longer. In addition, the show shared with us a few (somewhat) surprising revelations:
Bridget is falling for Andrew. Well, this one didn't come as much of a surprise, since it was bound to happen. Bridget had essentially taken over her sister's life, which, of course, included her sister's marriage. Frankly, I'm shocked it's taken them this long to start getting affectionate with each other, especially since Andrew isn't supposed to know his wife isn't really his wife. Bridget now has a strong tie to the city, besides just "doing right for her sister's family". There is now a man that she's genuinely falling for. Imagine how he'll react if he finds out the truth. That will not be a pretty scene.
Olivia is a sneaky bitch, but now she has leverage. Andrew's business partner, Olivia, spent most of the episode trying to convince him that they should secure Gemma's father's assets. Their investment firm is still in trouble and they definitely need Aborgast's capital to keep it going. But Andrew was hesitant to approach the old man. He's very upset about the disappearance of his daughter and is also ill. Olivia wanted Andrew to use his personal connection to Henry to contact the man, but Andrew continuously refused. Later, Olivia went to visit Henry to get him to sign some documents and was about to lift the old man's phone number. Instead, she found a rather incriminating photo of Siobhan and Henry on Henry's phone. Now Olivia, who has clearly hated Siobhan since day 1, seems to have some leverage on the woman. Will she show the photo to Andrew?
Siobhan has many secrets. Bridget found some anti-depressants that had been prescribed to Siobhan and smartly decided to look up the therapist listed on the bottle. While there, she spent a lot of time trying to get information about her sister from the doctor. In the end, she decided to steal some of the doctor's note and realized that her sister was incredibly paranoid before she disappeared and was worried someone would hurt her.
Malcolm doesn't trust Charlie. And now, neither does Bridget. Malcolm may have started out being jealous that Bridget found herself a new sponsor, but we quickly learned that his suspicions about Charlie were grounded in reality. We've known for a few episodes that Charlie isn't to be trusted, but now the characters are starting to clue in to that fact. Malcolm decided to search Charlie's real house, while Bridget tracked Charlie down to a church/bar listed on the therapist's notes. There she discovered that Charlie isn't an alcoholic and "Charlie" isn't his real name. When Bridget later tried to stall Charlie while Malcolm searched his house, he quickly realized something what up and left a message for Siobhan saying her sister was on to him.
Gemma is still alive. Oh, happy day! The woman that was rapidly becoming my favorite new bitchy character right before she disappeared is not dead after all. Ringer finally decided to give us answers tonight about Gemma and the answer is that Charlie kidnapped - but didn't kill - her. She's been kept in a basement in Charlie's real house. Why did he keep her alive? That we don't yet know. But I'm thrilled by this. Malcolm nearly found her as he was rooting through Charlie's house and trying to get into the locked basement. But will he find her before Charlie returns home? We'll have to wait until next week to see.
Siobhan is a true puppet-master. This week's Ringer showed us that Siobhan is far more clever than we may have given her credit for. This woman didn't only orchestrate her disappearance, she's had her hands in a lot of things. In fact, we learned that Bridget didn't escape that FBI agent in the pilot. He gave her his gun and suggested she disappear, because she couldn't trust the FBI to protect her. According to him, a lot of the agents were on Bodaway's payroll. To escape, he suggested she reunite with family, which led her straight to Siobhan. Granted, Siobhan orchestrated all of this through Charlie, but she still had a hand in it. With Siobhan being paranoid before her death, did she lure her sister to New York to take her place so she could disappear? Or is there more to the story?
Whatever the case may be, Ringer delivered a very solid episode this week, full of a few surprises and lot of gasp-worthy moments. Malcolm was finally given a purpose beyond acting strung out and being pointless. I want the writers to keep giving him important things to do. If Ringer can deliver up another episode like this in its midseason finale on November 29 (it's on hiatus next week), then I will be very happy.
OMG people still think this will turn out to be Buffy? that's ridiculous, anyway as you said it was a very solid episode just wished Malcom had discovered Gemma! This is getting complicated by the episode but I'm glad they're giving some answers.
This is a separate show with separate writers and Sarah is playing a new character. Why do people think that this is going to be some elaborate ploy and end up being buffy? Are you mentally ill?
