J.R. Ewing is somewhere grinning as big as the cheshire cat at news that Ewing Oil is back in business again...

TNT announced today their plans to revive the popular 80's CBS primetime soap Dallas and your boy here is 500 miles past ecstatic. The show, which dominated the 80's primetime soap genre along with spin-off Knots Landing and rival Dynasty, dealt with the intrigue and scandal surrounding J.R. Ewing, his brother Bobby, and other members of the Ewing family as they fought, cheated, and backstabbed to control the Ewing legacy. In short, it was one the best damn things to ever come across a TV set. Here's the press release on the pilot pick up.

DALLAS – Executive producer Cynthia Cidre, writer of the acclaimed film The Mambo Kings and creator/executiveproducer of the TV series Cane, has crafted an update of the long-running series about the Ewings of Southfork, whose betrayals, jealousies and passions have made them famous.  The story focuses on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers JR and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance.  This project, based upon the iconic series created by David Jacobs, comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television.

The offspring in question could be John Ross Ewing III (the son of J.R. Ewing) and Christopher Ewing (the adopted son of Bobby Ewing). The conflict possibilities are endless, and I bet that John Ross will be an even bigger bastard than his father ever was. Speaking of old cast returning, when we first reported on the news of the show's possible reboot, original series stars Larry Hagman (J.R.), Patrick Duffy (Bobby) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen Ewing) had been approached to take part in the new series. If they return now that the pilot has been announced is unknown at this time.

With the resurgence of old primetime hits making a comeback in recent years, Dallas 2.0 could be a bigger success on cable TV than network TV. If only Melrose Place had gone this route... So now with Dallas making it's way back to our TV screens, can we please for the love of God get an updated version of Dynasty? Please?

I think you have the most ecclectic and varied television tastes of anyone I have ever known. ;)

I'm an avid Dallas fan having watched every episode originally when broadcast and even watched it when the soap channel broadcasted it. TV is ALIVE again.
