"Dancing with the Stars" score recap

Let’s recap the scores from “Dancing with the Stars” to figure out where the contestants stand.

Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas

This pair first performed a quickstep and was penalized by all the judges for a technical mistake. In the quickstep you must stay in hold for the middle part of the dance. Shawn and Mark broke hold. They still earned the respectable score of 9-9-9 for a total of 27 out of 30.

For the second dance of the evening, they chose the paso doble which has been hard for contestants in the past who have trouble showing the intensity and passion the dance requires. Shawn pulls it off beautifully earning them 10-9-10 for a 29 out of 30. Total for this evening 56 out of 60, which lands them in a tie for second place when all the scores are in.

Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower

The Argentine tango was this team’s choice for their first dance. They played to their strengths and earned a 8-9-8 for a 27 out of 30.

Ty pulls off a sweet solo with lots of hip action during the rumba, but its not enough to impress the judges. He earns sympathetic comments from the judges and a 7-7-7 score for 21 out of 30, bringing in the lowest score of the evening with 46 out of 60.

Lil Kim and Derek Hough

With mixed comments from the judges, this duo performed a smooth and romantic waltz. They earned 25 out of 30 with scores of 8-9-8.

Playing to their strengths, this team performs a rousing salsa for the second performance. Even with a misstep, and a misspoken word during the scoring, the comments are mostly positive. The pair ends with scores of 9-9-9 for 27 out of 30 and an evening total of 52 out of 60.

Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke

These two made excellent strides to retake the top spot with a foxtrot. Len was the only judge to have anything negative to say about them. They earned 10-9-10 for a total of 29 out of 30.

In contrast to Ty and Chelsie, this pair’s rumba starts off odd, but ends with great comments. The judges questioned some of the choreographic choices, but gave solid scores of 9-9-9 for a 27 out of 30 and a total of 56 out of 60, tying them for second place.

Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani

A beautiful Viennese waltz earned this team solid scores and solid compliments. They earned the respectable 9-9-9 for a total of 27 out of 30.

Even in the face of wardrobe malfunction, this pair turns in the only perfect score performance of the night. Their second dance was a samba and the judges all commented on how sure they were that this pair will be in the semifinals. The 30 out of 30 score on this dance gave them an evening total of 57 out of 60 and the top spot.
