Dancing with the Stars Week 8 is down to 5 couples remaining, each of whom had to perform 2 new dances, including the “instant dance.” Click here for how the instant dances work.
Ralph Macchio gave everyone a good scare with his injury during rehearsals and not even he knew if he could survive the night. Having a ruptured cyst behind the knee, Ralph was subject to random acute pain during rehearsals and if it struck him during a dance, he would have been down for the count. Luckily, he made it through, though his discomfort was visible and his scores paid the price. Where were the painkillers Jennifer Grey had to make it through Dancing with the Stars Season 11’s finale?
On a happier note, Chelsea Kane gave partner Mark Ballas a good talking to about his arrogant behavior and attitude of late which she feels reflects badly on her. Did it do any good? Mark was mostly subdued, but his choreography still strayed from the traditional. This man can’t help himself.
Here’s how the remaining 5 couples stacked up with scores from both Dancing with the Stars Week 8 dances combined:
Chelsea & Mark 55: For their waltz, Carrie Ann thought Chelsea earned perfection, bringing a new sophistication and maturity to her dancing. Len thought there was too much emphasis on the story and not on the dance, while Bruno thought Chelsea shined like a precious jewel. Len just doesn’t like Mark’s choreography, period. Score: 29
The random song for their instant salsa was “Get Busy.” Len thought it was hot, Bruno thought since Mark brought so many steps to it, their bar is raised higher for next week. Carrie Ann thought there was no connection to the music and she was mercilessly booed by the audience. Score: 26 Definitely Safe
Hines & Kim 54: For their foxtrot, Hines was going for ‘the master of cheese’ and succeeded. Bruno likened the pair to Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse, while Carrie Ann argued that it was Gene Kelly. Len thought it was joyful and fluid but called Hines out on footwork. Score 28.
The random song for their instant jive was “Chantily Lace.” Bruno called Hines “Mr. Happy Feet” but said his feet moved like a penguin. Carrie Ann thought it was amazing and Hines hit every bet. Len said it was a fantastic job. Score: 26. More booing ensued. Definitely Safe.
Kirstie & Maks 53: After some brutal falls in rehearsal, Kirstie pulled off an awesome tango, and received a standing ovation. Bruno thought she had the right amount of passion with brilliant footwork. Carrie Ann felt her team cha cha last week was her best, but this tango topped it. Len thought it was so hot, he was surprised Maks took off only his hat. Kirstie received her first 10 of the season. Score: 28.
The random song for their instant salsa was “Cobrastyle”. Maks told Kirstie during rehearsal she had the biggest hips on the show so MOVE THEM! And she did. Bruno loved that it was a traditional salsa but thought they lost sync a bit. Carrie Ann disagreed, and said their chemistry really worked for them. Len enjoyed that it was slower, more rhythmic salsa. Score: 25. Definitely Safe.
Romeo & Chelsie 52: Carrie thought Romeo danced his tango with intensity. Len agreed, saying Romeo upped his game, and Bruno said Romeo was a strong, dark, real man commanding the lead of the tango. Score: 27. With a few others getting 10s, I thought Romeo was underscored. His tango was as deserving as Hines’ foxtrot.
The song for their instant salsa was “Tequila”, and even though Chelsie took Romeo to a salsa dance club for practice, Carrie and Bruno thought it was alittle out of sync and lost some fluidity. Len said it was a club dance, and that’s how they danced it. Score: 25. In Jeopardy
Ralph & Karina 46: Having only rehearsed 9 hours instead of their usual 40 due to his injury, Ralph had everyone on the edge of their seats while he managed to pull off a graceful Viennese Waltz. And we could all breathe again. Bruno said their dark waltz made them vampire lovers, Carrie Ann saw the spirit of Daniel Russo live on, while Len said he did a great job with the limited practice time. Score: 25.
Their instant cha cha song was “Stuck in the Middle” and this is where things went downhill. Ralph had zero practice time for this and had to rely on the choreography of the team cha cha from last week. He managed through it but the lack of prep time showed. Ralph was scared all night he would get hit with the pain that would knock him out. The judges admired his perseverance and gave him a standing ovation, but gave him all 7s. Score: 21.Likely to be Eliminated, unless his fans come out in droves. Otherwise, the spread between him and the others is just too wide to overcome.
