The Hoff is down! Repeat: The Hoff is down! David Hasselhoff has become the first person to be eliminated from this season of Dancing With the Stars, and I have to say it's a little bit historic. Hasselhoff is sort of an icon, and when I mean "sort of" I mean "some sort," which you could interpret in some pretty broad ways - none that were of any benefit to The Hoff's Dancing With the Stars aspirations. The elimination is especially sad news for Kym Johnson's fans, as the dance pro will also be departing Dancing With the Stars for the season. "It's been a great ride," Hasselhoff said. "I feel bad for Kym because she worked so hard to try and get me where I was going. I'm just so proud that my daughters are here and got to see me go this far. So, it's great."
At the end of the evening it turned out to be Hasselhoff and Kyle Massey in the bottom two when the axe fell on The Hoff. Massey's position was surprising as he was one of the highest scoring dancers of the evening, which just goes to show that the judge's scores mean nothing at this early stage of the game - and even less later on when practically every remaining couple is an over-achiever.
To his credit, The Hoff never took Dancing With the Stars lightly, remarking that ""I think it's going to be harder than the Comedy Central roast," and if you didn't see that roast it was brutal.
Hoff even bowed out with signature swagger, upon hearing his name the first thing the freshly eliminated Hoff had to say was "Hey, we tried." Rumor has it, Hasselhoff is on the next plane back to Germany, where - apparently - he's still famous.
I'm surprised he was sober long enough to dance.
