Tonight on Dancing with the Stars: The Instant Dance!

ricki lake and derek houghTonight’s Dancing with the Stars, week 8, will have the remaining five couples pitted against each other in their new individual dances, as well as the Instant Dance. Unlike in previous seasons, each couple will be doing the same style of dance for the Instant Dance, and in this case it’s the jive.

The Instant Dance is extremely challenging. The couples have already rehearsed their (approximately 45 second) jive, but they won’t get their music until about 20 minutes before they have to perform. To make matters worse, once they get their music, they are ushered into a backstage makeshift studio which is not the same size of their typical rehearsal studio or the actually DWTS ballroom set.  The pressure is not only on the celebrity contestant, but especially the pro. The pro has to adapt their pre-rehearsed choreography to the music, then teach it to his or her partner instantly during the live show. Given that some of the song selections this season have been extremely mismatched to the dance style, there’s no telling how this will turn out. Huge pressure.

So the Instant jive is perfect for JR Martinez and Rick Lake but not so good for Nancy Grace.  The jive is fast paced and involves lots of knee lifting and sharp kicks. Energy and precise footwork is what the judges, especially Len, will be looking for. Is Nancy up to it?  The judges have been trying to get her booted for weeks, and this should surely do it. Rob Kardashian and Hope Solo are young enough to sustain the energy, but it’s the footwork that may bring them down, particularly Hope.

And what of the individual dances? Here’s the breakdown:

--Nancy & Tristan: Tango
--Hope & Maks: Quickstep
--Rob & Cheryl: Quickstep
--Ricki & Derek: Waltz
--JR & Karina: Waltz

So the two leaderboard toppers, Ricki and JR, are really going head to head tonight with the same dances in both segments. Hope and Rob are the middle boarders and are also going head to head. That leaves Nancy with the tango. She’s liable to have lackluster energy to dance a jive after a tango. And that, I do believe, is precisely what DWTS is counting on.

Catch Dancing with the Stars tonight, November 7, at 8 p.m. (EST).

It's overdue for Nancy Grace to leave. Last week her steps were so bad, I was surprized she didn't fall. Its ok her money is going to charitybut come on people this is a dance show. Time for Nancy to go. There will be no living with her if she continues to move forward and Lord win. We all need to scream and get the show off of the air.

I think it's time for Lin to leave. He has no tack when judging the dancers. Some of his remarks would have left me crying…..There's no sense in some of his hateful remarks….All the contestants are working so hard to have him belittle them in public in such terrible remarks.
