Tonight on Dancing with the Stars: Semifinals of Season 12
The Dancing with the Stars Season 12 Semifinals officially begin tonight, with the remaining 4 set to perform three dances. Each couple will have to dance 1 ballroom dance and 1 latin dance that they haven't yet danced, as well as participate in a winner take all bonus cha cha round. The winner of the bonus round will have 15 points added to their score, making the margin wider and more difficult for fan votes to close.
I smell something so fishy here, it absolutely reeks. 15 points? So basically, if your favorite doesn't get the 15 bonus points, they are telling us we need to power vote to try to overcome that kind of spread. Doing this would seem reminiscent of the voting shenanigans that were pulled on Dancing with the Stars Season 11 for Bristol Palin. Yes, fans were able to trump Romeo's 6 point lead over Ralph last week, but now fans would have to more than double that to keep their favorite in. How can this be anything other than a call to power vote? Or, could it be a way of ensuring the show gets at least one couple in the finals that they want, or loses one couple they definitely don't want?
And yes, by all reports, the injured Kym Johnson is expected to participate in tonight's show. Or at least, we haven't seen anything to the contrary. See the video below in which poptv.com paparazzi catch the constestants at the Dancing with the Stars rehearsal studio lot. Kym is about 6 minutes in. Fingers crossed for Kym & Hines. For the regular dances, here's who's dancing what:
- Kirstie Alley & Maks Chmerkovskiy: Vienesse Waltz & paso doble
- Hines Ward & Kym Johnson: Argentine Tango & salsa
- Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff: Argentine Tango & salsa
- Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas: Argentine Tango & rumba
In the winner take all bonus round, the 4 couples face off in groups of 2, then the winner from each set face off. So 2 couples will definitely cha cha twice, with what I'm assuming is different choreography each time. This means the couples have had to prepare 4 dances (or 3 full ones if you take into account each cha cha is only 45 seconds, the two equal the time of one full dance) Make sense? Pro Mark Ballas' USAToday blog cited 4 dances instead of 3, and conspiracy theories grew like wild fire. But there is no controversy here. Seems he is counting each cha cha as two dances that all contestants need to prepare for, and not presuming he will win his round as many had thought.
Dancing with the Stars Season 12 Semifinals begins at 8 p.m. (EST) on ABC.

WHY IS KIRSTIE ALWAYS GRABBING LIKE HER FRONT PRIVATE AREA????? TONIGHT SHE WAS EVEN CRUMPLING THE FRONT OF HER GOWN….
I can't beleive the judges are so hard on Ralph when that cow kristy is still on. I feel the judging is not very imparshal . I may stop watching the program. It seems like only the stars the judges like are the ones that get high marks. It' very on fair judging.
If the judges don't like who gets voted off, they changed the rules (the 15 point bonus cha cha) so they get there way. The last few weeks, you know who they are going to pick before thy dance. Really turning people off this show.
Youhave to find a better co-host than Brooke Burke. She is so full of herself it's sickening! How can Tom, who is so down to earth, stand her? She acts like some kind of a goddess.
I can't believe how blatantly biased the judges are. I think Hines is a nice person, but come on, Ralph always does much more difficult routines, and much better. The judges scores tonight were so off base, it's a laugh. I'm voting for Ralph and Karina because they are good, much better than their scores reflect. The judges might as well declare the winner since they want to control the vote. I love the show but no longer can stand the judges.
Totally agree with this. Judges seemed to only have eyes for Hines and Chelsea. Hope fans rally and pull Ralph through. He did a great job tonight I thought
I don't believe, that Hines got all those 10's! this show is "fixed" again..He does not know, how to dance, his fat heavy butt won't let him, all the others are 100% better, then him, did he pay his way? I used to love the show, but It is not honest and I shell not watch it anymore. Shame on those judges and network. Bad, just like with Bristol…paid her way….o her mom did…
Kathleen, i agree with you 100%, something is not right, big time
totally agree with Kathleen
I like the Winner Take All (15 Point Bonus), it seems to be a reasonable attempt to keep inferior dancers (with superior Fan voting) from waltzing into the Finals (I'm looking at you, Master P. & Bristol Palin!). I hope DWTS keeps this Semifinal format.
