While I can respect that as your opinion of why YOU didn't watch the show, in no way do I believe that has anything to do with the lack of success of this show. I've always found it interesting the way people don't like a tv series and assume that the mass public does or doesn't like it for the same reasons. This show was never going to be a huge success, and it didn't have to be. It was a summer series purchased via an international deal that allow the networks involved to get it pretty cheaply. More than anything, marketing is to blame for its demise, which is typically the case. Not that this show would have ever appealed to the masses, its science fiction. Genre series never appeal to the masses. But had the marketing campaign been successful (or even existent) then this show should have easily pulled in 4 to 5 million viewers each week, which would have been a moderate success for a summer series of this nature.

To imply that the show is unsuccessful because it introduces politics into the show is absurd. Battlestar Galactica was hugely political and a success. The West Wing was all about politics and it was a hit. Hell, Brothers & Sisters, which has been successful in the EXACT same timeslot as Defying Gravity, is largely about politics and has been a big success for ABC.

I knew this show was doomed by the second episode. Three main flaws come to mind. Too expensive, left wing liberal storyline, and bad time slot.

People watch TV to escape from life's problems. Bringing in the abortion issue, political correctness, and fear mongering if the right wing were to return to power is stupid.

Too bad the story writers spent more time airing their political views than character development. It's what turned people off to a show with a promising concept.

What about DVR? I have to get up early every Monday morning. My DVR is set to record DG so I can watch it on Monday night a bit earlier. They should take DVR recording into account for the ratings!!

I downloaded the pilot from iTunes and was immediately hooked. The show runs at pace that is perfect in character development. There isn't one character that you can be bored with because each character has their own traits and issues to resolve. I really hope that this shows survives.

I tried to give this show a chance but I couldn't get into it. Maybe they should stop with all the flashbacks every half a second.

@Babo Sanko, I agree with you.

@Babo Sanko

Who takes the time to seek out a show that they don't like and then take the time to trash it? Oh well, it looks like that people like you Babo Sucko are going to take this show down. I wish it wasn't so but unfortunately the TV business is just that, a business and if people aren't watching the commercials that are interspersed between the 11 minute bursts of the show, then the show gets cancelled. Or moved. R.I.P. Defying Gravity. You will be missed.

Note: It hasn't been cancelled yet, I am only assuming it will because of the bad ratings, 2.6 million people on a national network on a sunday is dismal. About as dismal as it gets.

This show is horrible. Slow pace, banal, overpriced, no action, cheesey "feel good" embarassing dialogue, mundane character development, lackluster story. Crap like this won't survive a first season. Leave it to shows with originality like breaking bad, dexter, lost, weeds, underbelly to continue thriving while this pretentious dried out crusty old turd ends up by the wayside. Reality tv shows are better and cost a fourth to make. Should have just made this a mini series.

Yeah, watching the show really is all we can do at this point. Well, that and getting as many people as we know to watch it as well, whether its online, or via dvr viewing, at least its viewing. The ratings haven't even been hitting 4 million, which is pretty darned bad for a broadcast network. Even syfy shows like Warehouse 13 are breaking 4.1 million each week.

I really hope something will happen to improve ratings.

The free episodes on iTunes has been an excellent move. The episode "Rubicon" has been holding steady on the iTunes charts in the U.S and Canada so people are clearly enjoying the show enough to purchase it. Hopefully this will help persuade the networks to keep it...

I guess we just need to keep watching it *legally*. Canadians can watch it at watch.ctv.ca and Americans can watch it at www.abc.com

Fingers crossed.

I really like this show. Been setting the DVR to watch it (with kids, we don't watch anything in real time). The characters are compelling, and the story pacing is interesting. I love the setting. I was hoping to find out all the answers over time, and am bummed if it might only last the one season.

This is one I'd definitely buy on DVD.

So, how do we let ABC know we like it?
